I do not believe I ever posted a photo of my Virginia style rifle By G. L. Jones. I had this one built 20 or so years ago. Last of my flint rifles.

It is a shooter! The three shots you see NOT toward the center are when I was filing down the front sight and tapping the rear barrel sight around to get to center! Last shots I made were at center. It's 50 caliber and I shoot Hornady swaged round ball. This was shot from 100 yards. I think there's a Kansas buck....that doesn't know what's coming!! The inner ring is 1". It shoots mighty fine from 200 yards also!! Five shots toward center.

This sleek, slender five pound work of art made it here today! Bean style .36 southern mountain rifle that is going to ruin the day of a lot of Missouri squirrels in the near future!

If it has whipped cream and chocolate drizzles on it, it’s dessert. Grow up and get a coffee damnit

Turns out I was a pound off.
Here she is with her big brother.
.36 Southern Mountain rifle and .62/20 fowler/smooth bore rifle

I put them on a scale and the .36 comes in at 6 pounds 2 ounces, the fowler is 7 pounds, 10 ounces. There isn't much I can think of that this pair won't handle!

Really beautiful! Did you make that from a kit?

No - I bought it.
I don't have the fine skills or patience required to build one, either from a kit or using the raw materials!

While this is not a flinter, I believe it deserves honorable mention.
I found itin a defunct gun store, had it restored.
Was examined by Antique and Modern Firearms in Lex. Ky. They dated circa 1870.
Fine shootin .40 cal.

I love looking at these pics of beautiful flinters.
I know there are beautiful modern rifles. Something about a flint lock the graceful long lines, the simplicity of the action. To me they are the pinnacle of gun building.

62-cal early Reading/Christian Springs style rifle built by Allen Martin:

[Linked Image]

Here's a closer view to see the curl in the maple:

[Linked Image]

It's a 46" Hoyt barrel, big 1-1/8" breech (swamped) with a Davis Colonial lock and a Davis trigger (I think).

And.....since I couldn't say no to it, a soon-to-be-mine rifle also from Mr. Martin....36-cal Getz barrel, I think 38", with a small Siler lock....later Berks style schimmel---

A solo pic of my Fusil De Chasse. It shoots a .595 RB very nicely (old Rapine mould) with wasp or yellow jacket nest wadding. 70 grns FFFG. Shoots wasp nest just as well as patched RB.
