Just got done making some prototype steel Remington 581 magazines I am looking for two or three guys that are willing to put them to the test to see how they function. Must be willing to run at least 500 rounds through and see how they function. I also address the problem with the old magazine where if you don't cycle the bolt fast that it tips up the back end of the cartridge and keeps it from chambering without pushing it in with your finger. These magazines will hold six rounds and they are in the white as I didn't finish them. If anyone is interested in helping me see if they will function, contact me @ greg300wbyyahoo.com. I will be charging $65 each for them once I start production which I think is fair because the cheap plastic Remington ones are going for $45 used. The testers can keep the magazine for helping me out.

Email on its way.

I would have loved to try one when I had my 541-T. My only REAL complaint with the factory 5-rounders was the fact that they protrude from the mag well and ruin the lines of an otherwise very good looking rifle. Will yours fit flush with the bottom of the stock? If it does, I may hunt down another 541-T for the heck of it. Great rifles.

I would like to try one in my custom 541. It's a 581S receiver and functions flawlessly.

Right now there the same length as the factory 5 rounders, but could make a program to make a flush fit 4 round mag, also going to make a steel single shot mag like the winchester 52s

Dammit, man! You're giving me the urge to hop on gunbroker and find myself another 541-T!

Making these would be a GREAT service! I love my 541-T, but, like many the cheap plastic magazines just don't match the quality of the rifles. The flush-fitting 4 rounder is a really good idea too!

One of the biggest problem I fixed with the factory mags is that you can cycle the bolt slow without the round in the mag releasing and jamming the rifle. All my factory five rounders do this, as it releases the shell to soon.

Sounds like you have enough testers. I'll be interested in getting some for my Rem 541 when you have production versions.

This is sounding really good. Love the idea of a flush mount 4 rounder.
Checkering hasn't been done yet, but it sure looks off a bit with the mag. hanging down.

I have more requests for flush fit than the extended magazine

Excited to see how this turns out. Having several 541s and a custom 581, those plastic mags are a bane. A flush mount would definitely be welcome.

Making a 4 round magazine is a piece of cake, but doing so will cause another problem, and that is getting the magazine out of the rifle. Remington 581 and 541s mags don't fall out of the rifle they needs to be pulled out. Plus you will still have the magazine latch protruding out of the bottom of the stock. Wasn't planning on redesigning Remingtons problem with this rifle.

Steel vs Plastic, maybe they'll fall out when you depress the latch? You could put a couple of ears on the bottom kind of like the 511, 513, or 521 magazine.

I'm going to work on that next week but still have the magazine latch sticking out past the stock. Also steel magazines don't fall out because the way the latch spring pushes on the magazine guide.

Can't the mag just be punched out from the mag well with one finger or the thumb while the mag release latch is depressed?
