A couple questions for those of you who are loading the 41 Special.
Do some brands of 41 Magnum crimp dies have to be shortened to crimp the 41 Special ?
Do some brands of 41 Magnum crimp dies work as is with the 41 Special ?

I did a detailed article on the .41 Special years ago. John Taffin was a big fan of the round, too. googlefu us
I had my RCBS dies shortened to be able to crimp but many crimp dies made since then are made short enough to be Special/Mag. Sizers, of course, need no change.
Once you start shooting .41 Specials you may never torch off a Mangelum again. It's a great round.

RJM, Is there anyone selling these bullets? They are pretty much exactly what I want for light and heavy .41 Mag loads, but I do not cast bullets.
Thanks, Expat ..sorry I did not get back to you sooner but I was camping... No, no commercial caster I know of makes that exact same bullet but the LBT WFN bullets made by MBW are probably better. The meplat is only .04" smaller and in the long range testing I've done a little more accurate. No animal hit by the two bullets, going the same velocity, in the same place will know the difference. Rocky...is there a link to your article somewhere? I and several others have searched but come up empty... Thanks..Bob

I am not slamming them, I would buy another one if purchased for 200-300 bucks. I should have sent mine back to them to get fixed. I don't think Taurus will fix them. I passed on a lightly used stainless Tracker in 41 mag for that reason. 41

Taurus has a lifetime guaranty...why would they not fix one. I had a cylinder binding issue twice with my 4" Titanium Tracker long after they were discontinued...went back both times on their dime and have had zero issues after the second repair...
The repair time isn't quick as they are shipped back to Brazil for repair.
Took it this weekend camping...

I load a 215 gr SWC over six grains of Unique for my Single Six. First gun I'm gonna build when I retire. If I drank more I might wake up with a tattoo of that revolver..........

I got my 41 Special brass today. I found that my Lyman 41 Magnum die will work to crimp the 41 Special , no alteration of the die needed. The 41 Special brass should also aid the ejector a bit , 41 Magnum brass doesn't always want to fall free of the Taurus cylinder. Now I need to get busy & cast a batch of those "long nose" SWCs Mike

Had some time today to do some reloading so after finishing a batch of 10mm decided to make up some woods walking loads for the Trackers using Special brass... The Accurate 41-215V weighs 210 grains lubed and sized. The standard load in a Magnum case is 8.0 grains for mid-900 from a 4" barrel. 7.0 in a Special case produces the same but wanted a load to be going between 1000-1050 so bumped it up to 8.0 in the Special case. 4" Titanium Tracker.. The bullet will fit in the short cylinder even in a Magnum case but this will give the same velocity and no problem if there is any bullet pull.. Bob

Gun fits perfectly in a L-Frame DeSantis Speed Scabbard.. Extra ammo...one for the belt and one for the pocket.. TUFF Speed Strip in a belt carrier I got from Dillon.. Speed Strip in a REMORA accessory pouch.. Ammo is the now discontinued C.O.P. all copper HPs and the Federal/Barnes copper HPs..

I think I know the answer but I'll ask anyway: Why did Taurus make those revolvers with a short cylinder?
Weight Savings?

...I don't think so... But I have no clue why... I do know that Taurus doesn't recommend "heavy" loads in the .41 or .44... When the cylinder started binding I was shooting 175 Silvertip ammo. When I called and explained the problem the CS rep said that Silvertips were "full loads". When I tried to explain to him that they were one of the lowest pressure .41 rounds made as they were for self-defense use he didn't believe me. My three... Compared to a FA 97... These guns are perfect for the .41 Special and .44 Special as they are built tough enough to handle Magnums. Another real sleeper in the same gun in .45 ACP... I have one in stainless and it is a hell of a shooter... 15 rounds DA at 10 yards.. Not sure if they made the .45 in titanium or not... Bob ps...one other thought on the "short cylinder"...it really isn't technically speaking... ALL the standard factory loads will chamber in a Tracker except the heavy 265 cast loads from some of the specialty makers....all others chamber and function fine...even the Federal and CorBon 250s because they are both made with a LBT WFN bullet... It is only when one gets into a real Keith bullet (not a SWC like a Magma) or LBT LN that they won't fit...

I have a box of those 250gr Cor Bons. I think maybe Cor Bon discontinued that load , I don't see it listed on their website. I have no doubt the Tracker could handle them but I expect it would be more fun for me to shoot them in the Dan Wesson or my Contender. Mike
