I brought home a Taurus Tracker in 41 Magnum yesterday. Looks like it will make for a neat little revolver to amble about the woods with.

[Linked Image]

When I got home to my ammo supply I found that only 1 of my 3 handloads was short enough to fit the cylinder.

[Linked Image]

The 265 gr Cast Performance bullet (pictured left) is not a consideration for this revolver , they are already loaded in magnum brass & I have other 41s to shoot them in.

The Sierra 210 gr (right) will work in the Taurus.

The Lyman 210 (center) is an old design with a "long nose". I could make this one work in the Taurus IF I seated deeper & crimped it over the shoulder of the bullet , but I don't wanna do that.
The Lyman is my go to bullet for my 41s , it's the only 41 mold that I have.

[Linked Image]

So , my plan is to load the Lyman bullet in 41 Special cases for the Taurus. I ordered 500 Starline 41 Special cases.

I will just make this one a dedicated 41 Special revolver.

Anyone shooting the 41 Special ? , have any pet loads ?

Got the same revolver, but never went heavier than the 210 grain cast. But it did not have the long nose as pictured.

One thing I would add is that you might want to dump those stupid 'ribber grips' and get a set of Pachmyrs. Sure helps with heavy loads.

I may change the grips , I'm not crazy about 'em myself.

I don't really see me shooting many heavy loads in the Taurus , I have others for that.

Note the difference in cylinder length , 1.760 vs 1.580

The Taurus will handle them, and mine has about the sweetest trigger of any revolver I own including several Smith's. And the frame size is just about right for a .41 mag.

The only thing I do not like is that it is ported.

Yep...have a 4" titanium, a 6" titanium and a 4" stainless...all are great shooters.

Cast bullets...since you cast your own take a look at the Accurate Molds #215V and 250F. I bought the 215V just for the Trackers and the Freedom Arms 97 that also has a short cylinder. I was so pleased with the bullet I asked the owner of Accurate to extend the shank another band and make it a 250 grain...and that became the 250F

In a Magnum case in the short cylinder 97

These are the 250s at 50 yards..they cut clean round holes and the same at 100...

215V-250F-250L that will also fit in short cylinders

.37 meplat...90%...can't get any bigger without being a wadcutter...

I know that both Ron and Idaho Shooter have these guns and love them...great find...

I have a 4" S&W M-57, a 210 SWC over 7.5 grains of Unique has always worked great for me.
Your reloads don't fit ? Have you measured your cases for stretching ?

The cases are not too long. The bullets are too long , they are not what you'd call "standard". Either of the cast bullets seated to the crimp groove results in a cartridge that is over standard OAL. In most 41s it would not matter but the Taurus Tracker has a minimum length cylinder for the 41 Magnum cartridge.

Nice. One question though, does the double-action bust the caps?

The 44 mag I had was a great single-action, sometimes it would function in DA.

Uh , well , Idunno. I just got it yesterday & I have shot it exactly 25 times , all single action. I guess I'll test the double action tomorrow.

Meantime I guess I'll lay awake tonight wondering.

Thanks viking

Curdog4570 has a .41 Tracker that is a shooting machine. Amazingly accurate way out there.

i ordered a couple months ago the starline 41special brass, mainly as a project cause i can just download 41magnum. Kind of like the 44magnum vs. 41special thing.
having said that, i have loaded a couple of boxes of 180 grain lead bullets in 41special but think i am going to increase the weight.
they fit well both in the mentioned taurus and the 2.75inch ruger, both of which i thought were candidates.
the taurus will not take the long bullets.

i might kind of add why do any of this given you can download the 41magnum? Well among other things going from memory, the booklet with the gun says it can handle up to 1300fps, a 44special isn't gonna do that.
and these taurus' in particular are really well built, light, easy to carry. I did't think i was gonna like that funky grip but it grows on you.
i think the next bunch are going to be around 230grains at about 1000fps which i think would be about ideal.
they revolver itself regardless of the slams against taurus like i said in my opinion is pretty well builts. I shouldn't admit to my cost in one, but it was a little over 200bucks. Try to find something like it in that dollar range. And it was new in the box.

I am not slamming them, I would buy another one if purchased for 200-300 bucks. I should have sent mine back to them to get fixed.

That's some good stuff there RJM , Thanks for posting that. It's just what I was looking for , loads that approximate the old 41 Magnum police load but in the 41 Special case.

RJM,
Is there anyone selling these bullets? They are pretty much exactly what I want for light and heavy .41 Mag loads, but I do not cast bullets.

Thanks,
