I really don't know what all are out there. James Calhoon's look good, but I'd really rather not have to buy the modified bolt handle. I've found Burris, Warne, Leupold, Talley and CZ. Any others? What has worked for you?

I was told factory tikkas work. I'm thinking I might try that as I have some laying around. Im not too fond of the tall factory cz rings. Here is a pic of mine

All of them do something better than the 30-06, but none of them do everything as well.

Lack of rings and ability to mount a small objective scope low has kept me from buying a 527 carbine in 7.62X39.

That will help but the real issue is still the amount of bolt lift and the length of the bolt handle. The shank of the bolt handle will clear lower rings no problem. But the knob has very little clearance. On my rifle with the CZ rings the bolt knob is running a bit below center of the eyepiece. I have enough clearance to cup the bolt knob to work it and my hand does not hit the scope. If I went with lower rings the bolt knob would be running about center of the eyepiece, the widest point and I would have to use just the very tips of my fingers to work the bolt. If you look at the heights of the rings other than CZ they are the same as factory or just .10 of an inch shorter. Only complaint I have of the CZ rings is the screws are slotted and soft. Fortunately I had access to a extremely well stocked parts bin at work and found exact matches with hex heads.

Can a competent gunsmith bend the bolt? I have a 550 American with a 3-9x40 Conquest mounted in Warne medium rings. There is just barely enough clearance. I went to mount a MeoPro 3.5-10x44 on it and the bolt was hitting the ocular. I purchased high rings but can't bring myself to do it because it will affect my cheek weld somewhat.

THE hot ticket for rings on these 527's was the Lynx rings that were briefly imported by Burris 10 years ago. They required a modified bolt handle, but that's a trivial effort. They almost got you to a cheek weld.

The lowest mount I could come upwith was a Picatinny base and low Weavers. You gotta have the American handle to clear the scope eyepiece. Great cheek weld. DF

No. It has to be ground down, polished and reblued. A CZ American handle is around $30 or so, cheaper than doing all that unless you do your own work. Changing out the handles takes just a few seconds. http://www.diproductsinc.com/Detail.aspx?PROD=1133585DF

I didn't know whether to address him as Meat or Mr. Loaf. Should I address you as Dirt of Mr. Farmer? Anyhoo, the link you posted is for a 527. Are you saying it will fit a 550?
