I really don't know what all are out there. James Calhoon's look good, but I'd really rather not have to buy the modified bolt handle. I've found Burris, Warne, Leupold, Talley and CZ. Any others? What has worked for you?

I was told factory tikkas work.
I'm thinking I might try that as I have some laying around.
Im not too fond of the tall factory cz rings.
Here is a pic of mine

Lack of rings and ability to mount a small objective scope low has kept me from buying a 527 carbine in 7.62X39.

On my rifle with the CZ rings the bolt knob is running a bit below center of the eyepiece. I have enough clearance to cup the bolt knob to work it and my hand does not hit the scope. If I went with lower rings the bolt knob would be running about center of the eyepiece, the widest point and I would have to use just the very tips of my fingers to work the bolt.

If you look at the heights of the rings other than CZ they are the same as factory or just .10 of an inch shorter.

Only complaint I have of the CZ rings is the screws are slotted and soft. Fortunately I had access to a extremely well stocked parts bin at work and found exact matches with hex heads.

Can a competent gunsmith bend the bolt? I have a 550 American with a 3-9x40 Conquest mounted in Warne medium rings. There is just barely enough clearance. I went to mount a MeoPro 3.5-10x44 on it and the bolt was hitting the ocular. I purchased high rings but can't bring myself to do it because it will affect my cheek weld somewhat.

THE hot ticket for rings on these 527's was the Lynx rings that were briefly imported by Burris 10 years ago. They required a modified bolt handle, but that's a trivial effort. They almost got you to a cheek weld.

The lowest mount I could come upwith was a Picatinny base and low Weavers. You gotta have the American handle to clear the scope eyepiece. Great cheek weld.

No.

It has to be ground down, polished and reblued.

A CZ American handle is around $30 or so, cheaper than doing all that unless you do your own work. Changing out the handles takes just a few seconds.

I once sat next to the singer Meat Loaf on a flight from Dallas to Austin. I didn't know whether to address him as Meat or Mr. Loaf. Should I address you as Dirt of Mr. Farmer?

Anyhoo, the link you posted is for a 527. Are you saying it will fit a 550?

It's an American, the Prestige, which has upgraded wood and a really nice, highly polished finish.

It did have the older style bolt handle and I replaced it with the current CZ handle. The replacement handle has the std. blue finish, the difference not that noticeable.

It was a Hornet, now a K Hornet.

Very nice. I'm left-handed so none of that Hornet or Prestige ubernity for me, either .223 or .204 only. It could be a lot worse.

What did you and Meat Loaf finally decide?

We talked about the difference between Redbones and Cajuns. Ma Diddy is a Redbone by way of Port Arthur. My Mothers family were west Texas horse thieves according to her mother. Family get togethers were nothing if not entertaining. The only thing the two families had in common was that they were both Campbellites.

Mine was purchased April-May this year. I swapped the issue very tall rings for Warne mediums ( I think). Anyway the USA Burris 3-9 is comfortable.

Best,

Jack

Are there any gloss finish rings available?

I settled on a set of CZ's for mine. Ticked me off that I had to pay for them, as the gun shop absconded with the rings that came with the rifle.

They just dont look right with the Ultra light 2-7 Leupold.

Are they as low as Weaver Low rings, which IIRC are .9"?

My brief search revealed only Med and High Zee rings.

Check my earlier posts. The low Weavers with DIP rail is the lowest 527 mount I couid come up with. The other rings are a bit high for me, cheek weld just not as good as this set up.

Tikka factory rings on my CZ 527
All I did was knock out the pin that's on tikka rings.
Love the low look compared to factory high CZ rings.

Parker Hale rings will get you as low as possible to the point a 40mm scope won't fit. You will need to grind that bolt

LEUPOLD has been my preference.

For those who do not care for the higher mounts you deserve to try a 527 in a Boyds Thumbhole stock. Ill have to get a photo up some time of the 6.5 Grendel I put together in the last year. A photo will not do adequate justice. You really need to try it for yourself.

I thought I'd check back in on this. Bought Tikka factory rings off ebay, they fit perfectly. About 1/4" clearance for the bolt handle with the old Weaver I have on it for load work up and cheekweld isn't at all bad with the Lux stock. Thanks to all of you for your help.

And since it didn't happen if there ain't pictures.
