Father in law just snagged a nice 32 special. What shoots good in them?

Try the Hornady Leverevolutions. My Model 94 .32 Spec. does really well with them.

Not much choice these day, 170 grain Fed/Rem/Win round nose soft points or Hornady LeverEvolution 165 grain. I'd start with the Hornady ammo, since they are priced a bit less at MidwayUSA than the Fed/Rem/Win ammo. Bought 200 Remington rounds a few years ago in order to feed my Marlin 336SD and 1948 vintage Winchester 94.

The Federals shoot slightly better in my 94. But they all work pretty good which is about all I can expect with open sights anyway.

My first rifle was a 94 in 32 Special. I still have it and shoot it. I picked up another 94 and a Marlin in 32 also. I load the 170 gr. Speer/36.0 gr. W748/WLR primers and any case for all of them.

I killed my second mule deer with a Win 94 in 32 Win Special in 1971. New Mexico

I think he said it was a 51' model. I did get to shoot it last weekend and a very nice shooting rifle.

I shoot mainly cast bullets in mine. But otherwise 170 grain jacketed bullets. IMR 3031 and powders in that class works well.

I prefer classic.

I love the .32 Special. I had them in Winchester and Marlins and killed my only Bear with one. I always liked the Winchester 170's.

I like my 32. It happens to be more accurate than either of my 30-30's. I shoot 170gr jacketed with IMR4064 and IMR3031. But I shoot 170 gr cast more and so far only IMR 3031 with cast. It doesn't seem to be picky on bullet brand or even jacketed or cast.

I have my Dad's 32 Special in the safe now. It was given to him by his father. It's a 336RC that dates to 1951. It was the first center fire I ever shot as a kid and the first rifle I ever hunted deer with. We always ran regular ole' Winchester 170's through her. I will pass it along to my oldest son some day.

I also have my Dad's 32.. Don't shoot it much, and bought a .30-30 from a man I knew as a kid.. Both rifles were made around WW2.. With dad's I have shot whitetails, antelope, and one mountain lion.. Need to use it more..

This photo shows my friend with a dandy buck he toppled in Berks County, Pennsylvania with his 32 Special. One shot through the chest did the job nicely.
