What are your go to deer loads for .257 Roberts and .35 Whelen? I will be hunting whitetails and shots seldom exceed 100 yds..

200 gr Hornady Sp over 55.5 gr 3031 has take many PA, MI and NY whitetails for me, never a failure of any kind.
Current go to load is 250 gr Hornady or Partition over Varget for my Whelen since I have reverted to my 270's & 300 Savage for whitetails

Here's a link I just posted on another .257R thread.

I got great performance with the 100 TTSX over 47 gr. H100V. I'm loading longer than spec, so check published data and work up accordingly.

It's fast and it kills.

In 2 rifles I use: 46 gr Ramshot Hunter, 100 gr NBT, CCI-250, R-P cases.

Works well w/ the 100 gr Interlock as well as Speer's HP of the same weight.

200 gr Nosler Accubond over 57 gr IMR 8208 with a CCI 250 @ 2840 fps is my go to load for deer and a lot of other things. The Accubond sometimes likes to be seated deep sometimes so playing around with the seating depth can really tighten your groups. Varget works great too.

.257 R, 115 bt with 43.5 RL19, or 117 spbt Hornady Interlock with 43grn RL19. Both of those loads are very accurate in my Ruger m77.

.257 Roberts ... WW or Nosler +P brass, 43 grains of H414, Fed 215 or 215 match primer, 120 grain Nosler partition.

I haven't messed with the .35 Whelen. Can't help you much there though I'd start with 225 grain partitions if I were to load for one. I liked 'em in the .350 Rem Mag.

In my 35 Whelen I shoot 225 gn Sierra GKs over IMR 4064. They are accurate. Can't say how well the bullets perform. Never do find them but the deer die pretty quick.

Lot of folks around here use the Whelen in Handi rifles or T/C Encores during our primitive weapon season. Favorite load for most people I know is RL15 under a 225gr SGK or NAB.

Either load packs a punch on both ends when fired from a light rifle. I've been considering trying to download mine to something in the 35Rem range. I figure it would still be plenty for our small southern whitetails at reasonable distances.

My experience with Sierra 225 gr. Game Kings and IMR 4064 is the same as Hogwild7's. The bullet always has exited and the deer never go more than 30 yds. or so leaving a great blood trail.

TATELAW,

Down here on the southern end I'm using a 200gr. Hornady SP with 57gr. RL 15. I'm loading for several Encores and a Handi rifle. It's a milder load that everybody is comfortable with and hammers deer or hogs.

The only bullet I have ever recovered was a quartering away shot on a big 11 pt buck. I had to shoot him twice which is very unusual for the 35 Whelen. It was a 200 gr spitzer.
I like the 225 or the 250 gr now.
Either IMR 4320 or Varget will work very well.
IMR 4064 is no slouch either.

H4831 is the best smell, with the woods still ringing on a cold morning.

Worked up to 56.0 grains of BLC-2 under a Hornady 250 grain RN and though recoil is there hogs and deer are easy to find once you hit em!
