Welcome, I'm also new or almost new! Good choice on rifle and cartridge. If I could only hunt with one rifle for everything it would be .338 win mag. That said I'm sure glad I have choices!

Welcome aboard. Excellent rifle and load choice. Don't let some of these dipchits talk you into believing the .243 or 308 is the best, most UBER elk cartridge ever..... Those guys are on dope and don't know the first thing about hunting elk..

Speaking of idiots, you showed up right on que.

Why don't you show the new guy your wore out cow pic?

Surely you have at least one pic of you and an elk?

Too funny. Most of mine have fallen to a .30-06. A couple to a 264 Win Mag. They can take a while figuring out they are dead after the shot.

The most important thing to have in your pack for elk is a Sherpa to pack it out. I've never put one down and then said, "It looked bigger in my scope." It's usually, "Oh crap, I'm getting too old to be cutting these things up and carrying them out." But I can't stop going out there.
