So Ive decided to start hunting with a muzzle loader to take advantage of the better seasons and draw odds it affords.

Ive narrowd it down to these 2 options.Im looking for a gun that has a 200 yard range, I dont plant to hunt Idaho or the North West and plan to scope the rifle.

Which would you choose and why?

I'd go with the T/C simply for convenience. It uses any available powders, primers, and projectiles, whereas the Remington uses a proprietary ignition system.

I do see that as the major detractor regarding the remington

Both are 200 yd capable with a good load and practice. From what I see it's around $350 and a pound and a half difference in favor of the T/C, which could be used towards decent optics. I think the T/C is a bit easier to maintain plus it can be ordered straight to your door whereas the 700 requires dealer intervention. Unless you want a heavier rifle and the ability to shoot huge powder charges, not to mention the primer cases, I don't see the benefit of the Rem over the T/C.

I ran the Encore 50cal ML for 4 or 5 years and killed deer from 20 - 250 yards, no problem. For the money and maintanence, I'd do the Encore in a heartbeat.

Before you buy a Prohunter FX you may want to see if the barrel comes off the receiver. Ive heard it does not and its harder to clean the receiver than a Encore. Its also not SS but a SS colored coating similar to Cerakote.

i do believe its permanently attached but still seems easier to clean a break action than a bolt action muzzle loader.

i'd go with a triumph.encore stock is not right for me at all. triumph trigger is better to me. just feels better than the encore. buddy has the remington,its ok.

Try a Knight, CVA Any thing even the Hammer gun goes that far

I would buy the Remington over the T/C.

Another I like is the Knight Ultra Lite.

The Remington is the only muzzleloader I would buy that does not say Knight on it.

The TCs are okay. The Omega is pretty good. My bud has already had troubles with his Triumph. Neither will out shoot my Knight. The Pro Hunter is for sponsored idiots on TV, and CVA is just garbage......

I sure hope none of the dozen deer, that I've killed in the last few years, find that out.

the new cva's will shoot with anything on the market.

I'd choose any of the break actions over a muzzleloader with a "bolt action." Just adds useless weight and length to the rifle.

Yep. The Accura MR is my current favorite.

Why anyone would buy a CVA knowing the company's history and the tons of garbage they have produced is beyond me. Non proof tested barrels, breech plugs with no threads, etc. I guess it is the cheap price. Perfectly good USA made rifles exist, of higher quality......

Just got back from a Utah deer/elk hunt. I used a T/C encore, shots were 15 yards on the elk, and 210 on the deer. I thought the encore was easy to pack quick to load, easy to clean, compact, and shot well.

A buddy had a customized Rem 700 UML, It made a shot at 230 yards, It was long, HEAVY, and slow to load. It is very accurate. That being said he plans to buy an encore as a backup/light ML.

If he wants one that's light, he should check into a Triumph.
