More often than not I keep my spices in their original containers with the lids screwed on snug. The downside to this is most of them have flip lids for shake or pour and this year while not overly humid I lost about half of my bottles as they slowly turned to concrete.

Gotta new spice rack and can't see all of my spices in zip lock bags.

Suggestions ???

Can't help with that, but I do have a related question. Back in July when I went to Quemado, I wanted some sage to use in a stew. In Albuquerque, a very small bottle was about $7.00, and the other day at out local gro. store, I could not even find any. Anybody got ideas about what is going on. You need sage for sausage. miles

If you don't mind taking a little longer to get into it I believe you can unscrew the top, lay over a piece of plastic wrap, and screw the top back on. I like to keep most of mine in mason jars and that seems to work well.

Raw white rice works in salt shakers - don't see why it you couldn't use it for other spices.

My biggest issue, in regards to this, was that my spice rack sits directly above my stove top. The moisture develops from water boiling, soups & sauces simmering, general cooking.

Shifted my spices to the pantry, which is less convenient, but almost eliminated the need to bang the [bleep] outta the bottles to dispense the herbs & spices.

The real answer, however, to completely eliminate the "clumping" issue, is to buy whole spices & grind as needed.

This actually adds to my philosophy of low & slow is always best................. except for the very best cuts of anything.

Denny store the shakers upside down to minimize air from the top. As others stated rice or even dried beans work great!!

You could add moisture canisters but they're not really cheap. Think they're called dry spice.

Not ashamed to say that I've brought the big guns into play (cordless drill)to fluff up some of my rock hard spices

easiest way is to just use them. Buy smaller containers, keep them sealed.
Spices have a finite shelf life. They don't stay in top shape long.

I got over "saving" with the "economy size" packages a long time ago.

I bought some kid from outer Mongolia (not sure if its a boy or girl because of the long nappy hair.)

Anyway, we have managed to train it to shake all the spice bottles whenever we click the large grill lighter.

We hit it a couple times a day. So far its going ok.

Mongolia has naggers ??? Does BLM know about this ?
