Yikes - I got this from Ruger today - I could not get their E-mail to me to link so I copied the pertinent part.

As follows: "Last Chance to Purchase a 77-Series Rifle
The 77-Series line of rifles is now temporarily discontinued. This may be your last chance to get a Ruger 77/17®, Ruger 77/22®, Ruger® 77/357™ or Ruger 77/44®! There are limited opportunities left to purchase these rifles at retail. Head to your preferred local retailer today to see what is left in stock".

Sad news this - I wanted a 77/17 Hornet.
Oh well.

I had one in .17 HMR for several years, in the laminated stock. The barrel was noticeably rougher than my CZ in the same caliber, I could feel it on the patch with the cleaning rod, kinda like a file, otherwise it was ok. They got real expensive later on, I sold it as I got out of the .17 HMR market. The accuracy was not quite as tight as the CZ either.

With people having less money to spend these days and the cheaper Ruger American, they probably felt it was time to stop making the 77, but maybe it will come back down the road.

I would like to see Ruger make a Colt Cobra revolver.

HE112: It is amazing the price that Ruger was asking for these 77/17's of recent!
I bought mine from a "disgruntled" gun store manager (the old Axeman store) in Missoula, Montana who was just livid with gun manufacturers bringing guns out that his customers could not get ammunition for!
He just said "f" it and sold me that heavy barrel Ruger 77/17 for what he paid wholesale for it.
I have just been thrilled with the Rifle ever since, having killed all manner of Wild Turkeys, small game, predators and Varmints with it.
I have a pair of Colt Cobra's in my collection - one blued and the other nickel plated.
They are just cool little guns - I wish COLT would resume production of them.
