I recently learned that the wife of a very good friend, and mother of several students of mine was diagnosed with advanced stage cancer.

As is often the case, though they both work, there isn't a lot of extra money lying around in case of emergency. So, when all of a sudden "Mom" ended up in Anchorage, they were very unprepared for buying airline tickets to get family members there to be with her.

So I have put one of my new sleds up for raffle; it's a 40-square raffle. Tickets are $30 each. If you'd like to help the family out, I'll put your name on a square and perhaps you will have a sled waiting for you in Fairbanks if your square is the winner. (I'll also deliver it to any local freighting agent or airline, but you'll be responsible from there.)

The sled is 9 feet long, 32 inches wide; the welded tow bar folds back into the bed for storage or transport. It's all ready to go. (Gas jugs and containers no included. smirk )

All squares have been filled.

Thanks to all who have taken the time to consider my post here, and especially to those who have generously opened their wallets to help these strangers who are my friends. Your kindness speaks volumes and I trust that it will be returned to you many-fold in some ways.

I will pass along to the family the fact that there are people behind them from all over this great country as well as Alaska. I know some of you didn't publicly announce your support, and I won't 'out' you. Suffice to say that I am humbled by the fact that people living as far away as Texas , New York, Alabama, and Idaho, as well as people from all over Alaska have thrown their support this direction.

Thank you all so much.

We're planning to post the drawing, live, this afternoon around 4 PM AST.

It's going to be done using Facebook 'Live' which really stretches the bounds of my tech abilities, so keeping my fingers crossed. Anyway, it'll end up on Facebook - For Sale or trade: Norton Sound - if anyone is interested. (That's a 'closed' group so you need to request to be part of it.)

Dropped a numbered penny in the pot for each of the 41 numbers on the card. My number one son did the draw and pulled number 29, so Allen Ivanoff needs to figure out how to get a sled from Fairbanks to Unalakleet. Pretty sure it will get put to good use with him and his family.

No, Jeff is not my son, but I'm sure he has made his own dad proud. But my first son pulled the tag numbered 29.

Alberta, the 'beneficiary' of the raffle proceeds, ended treatment and went back home today. Things are so far progressed that there really is no long-term hope for her, her husband told me she wants to be closer to family and friends during her last last days, and seek whatever comfort they can provide which can't be had in a medical facility.

The couple have both been touched by the generousity of friends and strangers who have shared of resources, thoughts and prayers. For that I can only say thank you.

Allen Ivanoff is a great guy and he will put that sled to good use. Sounds like a freight backhaul on Ravn or possibly on the BSSD school plane when its close to empty.

Thanks again for a great fundraiser.
