Does the front sight have to be removed?

Thanks.

No, you'll never notice it.

That front sight just magically disappears in the optic view.

I'm sure there's a scientific explanation that MD could explain.

It only "disappears" above about 3x magnification. If it is an unmagnified dot sight, then you might consider cowitnessing the dot with the front sight.

The front sight is clearly viable with a 3.5X ACOG.

While it is visible, it is not a problem as long as your mount is the right height like most one piece AR mounts.

If you're gonna try low rings then you're screwed from the start.

One other note about it disappearing above 3x, if the light is right, it can cause glare in your scope or maybe it's more of a ghost image. It bugged me with a regular scope but doesn't bother me a bit with a red dot.

I think it depends on where your vision is focused too. I can see it at 3x if I look for it, but don't notice it at lower magnification if I'm focused on something else.

I personally like lower 1/3 cowitness mounts for mine, so that helps with the front sight post not being as intrusive.

I've recently converted both of mine to absolute cowitness.

Barely seeing the irons in the bottom didn't work as well for me and the bright red dot sits right on top of the post anyway. It took some time trying it but I found it works better for me.

I just put the Bushnell red dot on my S&W AR.

Yes, the front sight shows, but it's easy to ignore.

I LOVE this red dot!
