Gents:

Pleased to join in here! Read some great discussions here between Captchee (have read & respected your postings for years!) and Kaywoodie, so I'm glad to pull up to the camp fire and join you!

I've been making my own kits (Fusil de Chasse, left-handed on the bench right now), and have a few fowlers barreled at 42", 44.x" (for the French gun, as measured in Pieds), and 48" then got caught up in Club Butt muskets and man ... am I hooked! Ended up buying a 54" barreled Fusil de Boucanier in 65-caliber as made by the late John Bosh, using all The Rifle Shoppe parts. That's this one, albeit not the best photo:

Then I had the chance to pick up a 75-caliber Dutch style club butt by Jackie Brown that has outrageous wood on it, for all 60" of her length! And she barely makes it in at a svelte 8-pounds, wearing a barrel by Greg Christian.

She turns heads at the range ... especially when I have to shoot under the covered shooting line and the ramrod hits the ceiling!

All of my MZL'drs will shoot into ONE ragged hole ALL day long ... it's just those darn 2nd & 3rd+ shots that tend to open up my groups!

Beautiful guns!

I shoot a rifle that's 63" long overall. I know what you mean about tickling the rafters with a work rod when loading. smile

And even here in PA, people at the range aren't used to seeing flintlocks often, and even less often to see long rifles. In the state where many schools of long rifles once thrived, you'd think that wouldn't be the case, but it is.
