All:

New to the 22-250.
Gun is in great shape.

Looking for a scope but not looking to break the bank on it either. What is a good scope for this rifle nowadays?

Thanks,
RAS

If I was scoping an older rifle like that I'd pull out an old T10 that I have stuck away.

Have had a T10 on my model 700 Winnie since 1978. Flawless performance...

Bushnell 3200 10x40?

Or maybe a Weaver V16, 4-16x42 AO?

I'd put a variable on it. Most useful would be something around 4x at the low end and 14.5 or 16x at the top end.

I'd also use something like a 4.5-14 or 3-12 or 4-16.

I had a 6.5-20 Leupold on mine and it works great for shots from 100 yards out to 600 yards.

Or, go period scope - old Weaver K4 or one of the variables from the day.
If going 'modern' I'm in agreement with the 4-12, 14, 16 crowd.

I decided to go with an older Redfield 4-12 that I had totally rebuilt. It is the version with the tombstone. The lenses are very clear and it held zero perfectly on the other rifle it sat on. Looks pretty good but the proof will be partially displayed at the range.

I agree, that a max of 12X is required for this rifle.

That's what I was thinking. I had a 788 in 222, about 1978 vintage. I had a 6X Weaver on it and I thought it was about perfect. I wish I could get that one back.

I worked 2nd shift back then and I would strap that 222 across my back with a Ruger Mark I in a Hunter holster on my hip and ride through town on my '79 Yamaha DT400 Enduro to go woodchuck hunting every day in the Summer. Nobody even turned a head back then. Can you imagine what people's reaction would be today?

I used to have one of those. One of the best Leupolds I've owned. Better than the new POS's..
