Does anyone have a good source for lump charcoal?

I also make my own with a couple of barrels and a section of stove pipe.

Kinda hard to find lump in my area too. Occasionally Walmart will have it. Lately the local Howard E. Butt store has been carrying mesquite lump charcoal. That's great stuff too.
My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost....

Holmes Depot and Wal Mart almost always have it.
Our Sam's Club in Great Falls sells HUGE bags of it for cheap each summer.

How much do you intend to purchase with each transaction?
A couple of bags or a pallet load?

I use a Big Green Egg several times a week. A lot of the local lump coal is small chunks - probably from over handling. If the price isn't too outrageous I'm willing to have some shipped in.

Do yourself a big favor and check out Rockwood lump. It's really good stuff, large pieces, clean smoke and low ash. Myself and a friend buy two pallets a year for our own use and to sell to friends. I realize not everyone needs those quantities, but places like Firecraft sell it on-line. Once you use it you will never buy another bag of Cowboy or Royal Oak (which is all the BGE stuff is) again. You can check out a very good rating of lump charcoals here.I have cooked almost exclusively with lump charcoal over the last six years and the quality most certainly makes a difference on the taste of the food. Well maybe, kinda, sorta.....
I talked to Mikes bud over at Firecraft and while he agreed too sell direct to me because I was a competition cooker it was not in his best interest. Mostly because of FOB end customer.
Our discussions quickly turned too the ship to location. And also that I would need muscles or a forklift to unload.
In the end and at the gentleman's suggestion, I did as well using a local Ace Hardware store, which was fine. And it created less hardship for FC.
Just my .02.

No sir not a mistake at all.
Mikes guidance was golden as is yours. Just turned out too be much easier to buy local and very close to the same price as FC direct. They even fixed me up with using the local Ace HW store.
The Ace store also offered to warehouse.

We have a brand spankin' new Ace Hardware store up the road from us in Buckhannon,WV.
Just bought some Kingsford there the other day but didn't see any lump. I'll ask about their stocking plans. Much easier than driving to WM for RO.

I always buy Rockwood from FireCraft to use in my BGE. Free shipping over $99 and nothing else I have used has been half as good.
