Interesting read, can someone say black-market and drop weapons...

Link

Police weapons go missing, there's no reporting and no State or Federal laws to require reporting. No databases to log police weapons... nothing

Why do you say no one cares? A lost or stolen firearm is a big deal to any agency.
Just because that reporter didn't mention the problems an officer gets into for losing, or allowing a firearm to be stolen through carelessness, doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

Having a law that requires a LE agency to log and report lost or stolen firearms is another "feel good" law.

I would be willing to bet a steak dinner that every one of those guns is entered into NCIC as a stolen gun. What other database would you have them entered into and why?

I agree that LE folks leaving department firearms where they are subject to being stolen should be held accountable. It is much easier to hold cops accountable for that that behavior because their livelihood can depend on it.

If we do that for cops, what shall we do for the non-LE folks who are careless with their firearms storage?

Welcome to still another example of politically correct, incompetent cops Phil. Lots of other examples out there. E

Apparently you didn't read the article...

Quote
A lost or stolen firearm is a big deal to any agency

So much so that for 5 years they didn't even know that large numbers were missing from their own inventory's.

Second story was not based on any one reporter but a years long study done by multiple papers.

The elected officials in SoCal are a goat fugk and the residents of SoCal are fine with it.

I did read the article and stand by my remarks. I would be willing to bet those agencies had not inventoried anything in five years.

You quote a known liberal rag to advance you beliefs and then refer to a second story for which you provide no link to.

Oh, and as deflave noted, So. Cal LE agencies are fugged up and you act surprised and seemingly offended?

C'mon, Phil, you can do better than that.

Wrong again on all counts... and as far as my being surprised and/or offended... just your assumption, and wrong again. As to your comment that its just California, bingo, wrong again! Hell your not even right on the Liberal Rag part, Southern California News Group is made up of mostly Right Leaning papers.

Typical BS,

I would bet that most lost or stolen firearm's missing from different agencies are taken by their own personal.

Problem is such that 3 entire states (California is not one of them) and 146 departments from 36 states have been suspended from the Pentagons 1033 program, for not doing the required annual inventory's and loosing or having weapons stolen.

Here's one to where 500 weapons go missing from a Texas department evidence room...

Link

And you're right, its usually the department employees at blame.

California does have a big problem with officers and their weapons, just a few years ago, a local FFL was busted with I think it was 9 officers using a loophole in the law allowing officers to purchase restricted weapons and then turning around and selling them to the public.

Guess officer pay and benefits and California has some of the Nations highest paid, still isn't enough!
