Never fired it yet and will be putting a Nikon Prostaf on it later this week.
Thoughts?

What all did you do to it? DId you start with a 99F in 284? I like it.

Some of the guys here on the fire but in another forum suggested the 145 grain Speer BTSP bullet for mine. Perfect fit with it's short design. Very accurate, kills game. The long sleek bullets don't have room in the magazine.

Really nice!! Never had a 284, but from what I hear and have read as Roy said "kills game".

I like the short barrel with schnable forend, I like that you kept the curved EG butt plate too. Looks good, Did you whittle the stocks yourself?

The .284 is what the 7mm-08 wants to be when it grows up. More horsepower for long range.

Those look like mildly reshaped EG stocks huh? Very nice bluing too. What's not to like, well done.

Purchased this gun in pretty good shape. Bluing did not look brand new any more so I had it reblued. Sorry, but I want my guns looking great for me. Never having been a fan of the blunt forarms on some of the 99's, I replaced it with a schnable forend that had wood matching nicely. Then the original stock had that god awful pressed checkering. I have a friend who is really good with stocks and he removed it all leaving the gun with much less bulk to boot. I am not sure if any 99's in 284 ever came with this setup, but it should have. I think this is my new favorite 99.

No 99's in 284 had a stock like that, nothing after 1960 had an EG like stock. I've thought about finding a spare stock to put my 99DL into tho, I agree that it's much nicer.

Definitely won't get rid of the old one, just maybe add an EG style one to it for the field.

About the best factory configured DL in 284 would be the 1964 production rifle that had hand checkering. I've never seen or heard of one but they should exist. David
