Been on a heavy open sight kick as of late and am going Muley (maybe elk) hunting in a couple of weeks. Been practicing a lot as of late In the various field positions.

Plan on taking this bad boy (I LOVE this thing) .375 Ruger. 7 lbs 6 oz, as is.

Mine is on the right. Buddy's is on the left.

Although...this one has been begging to be taken out, as well!

Seven-fiddy-seven...natch. (With 175gr RN, no less).

Possibly, after I hang some meat. Picked up a Low Wall .44mag that has a tang peep. I was able to get a couple of good groups at 100 with 1000fpsTrail boss loads, but they were very low. Have to see if I can get it lined up with H110 and XTPs without filing the front Skinner blade down. I'm sure I can arrive at a compromise eventually, just not sure if it'll be in time for making meat this year.

Nice RSI.

Did it on a black bear hunt over hounds this year already. Suppose that don't count though as that is a guarantee for a close up shot. 44 mag pistol with some stiff 240 grain loads. Closed the deal rather nice though breaking the shoulders and taking out the engine room.
I have a Ruger Hawkeye 30-06 with Williams Irons that is my dedicated Bear Rifle. I usually run a 200 gr partition out of it and I have it zeroed at 150 yds. just in case. That gets me to 300 with no issue on bear and is still dead on real close for over the dogs. I do like the NECG peep for my Rugers. They're solid and accurate. I've had them on bolts and single shots. They even held tight on a No.1 45-70 I had that I loaded hard cast loads at "hammer of Thor" levels.
So, yes. I will hunt with Irons this year.......again

planning on a couple does for the freezer with a Marlin 336 bored to 38-55 shooting 250 grain cast bullets at up to 1500fps depending on which box of reloads I pick up. Rifle has a Skinner peep and a green fiber optic front sight.
Should be just the thing for some heavy creek bottom timber I have in mind.

Yep. I will be using iron sights on a 1951 made,Marlin 336, in .35 Remington. What a great rifle to use in the mountains of N.C.

Possibly my Remington 141 in .35 Rem. It has a lyman receiver sight and a fiber optic bead in deference to my aging eyes.

I hunt muzzleloader season with my Lyman Deerstalker .54 cal flintlock which has a T/C peep sight on it. I also hunt with my 1950 Marlin 336 SC .35 Rem with a Redfield peep sight. It may see some carry this season. Been hunting with my BLR .358 Win lately. It is scoped with such elitist snob appeal as no other scope could hope to achieve than the venerable Bushnell Banner 1.5-4.5x32 grin.

Well .... I don't reckon since I don't have a rifle equipped w/irons.

It's useless to me, because the rear sight is a blurrrrrr.

Sure. Usually rotate between a pre-war 30/30 Savage 99 featherweight with a Redfield receiver sight and my scoped .308 Kimber Montana.

I just might drag out my old T/C Hawkin .54 cal percussion rifle and shoot a few does with it this season. Mine is very accurate out to 100 yards.

Use one quite often for hogs in close quarters. Just happens to be the first rifle I ever bought, back in 1971, a Marlin 336 30-30.

I will in Maine rifle season this year. Also during flintlock season after Christmas, we can't use scopes, but who would put one on a flintlock anyway?

Natch. I use scopes on .22's for squirrel hunting and target shooting, irons (apertures) on my deer rifles. If I hunted the "high, wide, and lonesome" I would scope the rifle, but for eastern forests- meh.

After opening morning, my Marlin 30-30 with a Williams receiver sight will be my hunting rifle of choice. CP.
