Hey everyone. I am planning to bear hunt in New Brunswick this spring with my father. Does anyone have any recommendations of what outfitter to use? Any that I should not use??? I am currently looking at Taxis River Outfitters, Lawrence Dyers and Sons, Salmon River Bend outfitters, and HuntnIt. I am open to other suggestions, and would love to hear of experiences with any of these outfitters (good or bad).

Email me: Thepriestleyclangmail.com

Thanks!

Welcome to the "fire", How2!

New Brunswick is a few thousand miles, (kilometers), east of our humble place.

I hope someone comes along with real help.

North View outfitters in Plaster Rock, NB. Wayne DeLeavey. I hunted there this year. Great accommodations and excellent food. Good guides, good hunting. I got my bear on the second night of the hunt. I plan on going again.

Thanks rich! How many bears where hunters seeing on average per night? My father has never been bear hunting and seeing several bears in a week would make the hunt whether he fills a tag or not. How big where they bear you encountered while hunting. How big was the one you put the hammer on (if you don't mind me asking)?

Most hunters in camp saw at least 1 or 2 bears in 5 days of hunting. I did not see a bear every night. My bear was around 200 lb, but he'd probably be 260 in the fall. They had a 400 lb bear taken 2 weeks before I hunted.

Can't comment on the outfitters specifically, but I know NB very well. Renous and Plaster Rock are in the same area, and that region has some of the best bear and whitetail deer hunting you'll find in North America. Also world famous for salmon in the Miramachi area as well if you're into that.

I would highly recommend Ray Dillon of Marlarkey Guide Service. Malarkey is a nearby mountain. Have hunted deer and bear with him since the mid 90's. You can see anywhere from no bear in five days to five or six in a day. Alot depends on the hunter. If you can't sit still and quiet you won't see bear. I've seen two bear brought in that were over 400 lbs. but most run from 200 to 300 lbs. He has both tree stands and ground blinds. Bring a climber if you have one. Food is very good. He usually limits hunters to no more than 9. Also bring a thermocell. If the flies are horrible you will see more bears. The bears don't seem to be bothered by the thermocell. I think the best weeks are the last week of May or the first week of June. Much before that if iffy. Cold wet weather shuts everything down. I seen snow in early May. Any excuse to go sit in the woods with a rifle the first week of June.

I'll second this suggestion. Kevin is a terrific guide and he treats you like royalty. I passed up several bear before shooting "the one".

Seems we constantly hear about how Social Security is going to run out of money but we never hear about welfare or food stamps running out of money. What's interesting is the first group WORKED for their money but the other group didn't.

Bear seems to be holding steady here. many locals incl. myself never hunt them so it leaves more for the sports.

Bear aside, i would NOT recommend NB for deer hunting. Numbers are very low. I saw one lonely deer last fall on last week of the season.

I have booked a hunt near plaster rock for the first week of June. Thank you for the information. I will be sure to bring along the thermocell.
