I've been in southern Idaho for a few weeks hunting elk. Needed a break and a decent shower so I came to town for awhile.

This is a public land muzzloader hunt. It is a limited entry area, and since I've shot some good bulls Thru the years I've been holding out for a great bull on this one. I have stopped counting how many Bulls I've been in range of, it's been incredible.

Anyway, a few pics, quality sucks, using my phone

I have a bunch of video, one morning I had 15 Bulls within bow range. Way too slow to load videos tho. Back at it tomorrow.

Feel free to add some pics of this years elk hunts.

Some very nice bulls trotting away from you ! : ) Thanks for sharing Rosco 1. Good luck on finding the bull you desire. Glad to see the wolves did not get all the big ones.

You're a better man than I. I hope your patience pays off and you plug a big one.

Only way I'd let that one walk would be if I'd just taken a shot and couldn't re-load fast enough......

I would have tagged most of those bulls! Some big horns in that part of Idaho. Very impressive Shiras and eye popping mulies as well. Hope you tag out on your trophy!

Hunt ended and I ended up eating the tag. Hard to believe I know. I was on so many bulls I stopped counting..

Was also in range of the bull I was after twice, but never got a clean shot at him. Very frustrating, but the way she goes I guess.

I have lots of video, but getting it loaded is a pain, so I took some stills out of a few. One morning I had 15 bulls within 30 yards of me, the noise was something..

Screen shots off vids are even poorer quality than my normal pics, sorry.

Hope you guys fill your tags, thanks for lookin.

Good on you for sticking it out for the one you wanted rosco.

Some people (you know who I'm talking about) would label that hunt a "failure."

Looks pretty damn awesome from where I sit. Great shots. Can't say I've ever seen a smoking tree like that

Incredible pics Rosco! Thanks for posting them.

About the mt lions, were they both adult and traveling together, or was it a female and offspring do you think?

Thanks all.

Smokepole, lightning hit that sucker pretty much out of the blue. It was clouding up a bit and I hadnt heard much if any thunder, then it hits right by me. sent splinters flying all over. Pretty good fire going under it I had to put out. It'll wake you right up when that close!

davet, they were both adult cats. I had heard the female "cat calling" for two days and had seen her one time.

The third day I heard her she had called in that tom, the female was good size, and the tom had 30-40 pounds on her. poor pics so you cant really tell.

I could have killed the big Tom and wanted to (I have a tag for them), but the bull I was after was in the same canyon, so i just sat back and observed..The sounds coming out of that canyon with them two carrying on was something to hear, makes the hike in/out a little more exciting.

Lots of guys hear the female call and describe it as a screaming woman..I suppose it could be described that way. This is about the only time lions are vulnerable, ive only seen lions without the aid of dogs a handful of times, and its usually when the female is in heat.

I did call one in by accident one time, as i was turkey hunting..Surprise!

I had an up close meeting with a mt lion last year Sept 23rd while elk hunting in CO, and thought it had to have been 2 different cats. One was really big, and then there was a cat behind us and I couldn't figure out how the one was both places so quickly, but I hadn't heard of adults traveling together either.

They were pretty bold for what was going on, and my cousin, a NM biologist thought that whether it was one or two cats, they must have had a kill really close by.

Yeah, I got to hear the low growl turn to a squawl up close, 20-25 yards. Glad there were two of us there for that encounter.

Thanks again for the pics, you are hunting elk on a different level than we were for sure.

Rosco, I don't know you except to say that when it comes to popping a cap in that kind of company I'm a lot less reticent than you are. I also appreciate your going solo.

I especially like the pic of the bull and the lion in the "stare-down".

Thanks for putting those up.

I'm not always that picky, but anymore it does take a pretty good bull to get me giddy.

a few vids from the hunt. I was trying to figure out how to splice them into one, but gave up..Have to work on my editing skills some more.

That many big bulls, bucks, moose, lions - I'm guessing you were South of the Interstate....If that is the case then these are very limited tags with ~2% drawing odds. Good tags but very difficult to draw.

This is a bull I got in range of twice, just never got a shot..Scary to think he's a young bull..Hopefully he makes someone very happy next year.

most of these vids I was just going for sound and never thought i'd be putting them on the net.Wish I would have video'd the bulls that came in close, there was a bunch of them.
