Don't have any pics of my own yet, but I'm pretty sure the stock is a McMillan. Need to pull it and have a look. It was listed at $1089 in store and with points I got it down to just over $900 out of pocket. SN is 162XXX, I think it's a '50. I may hunt it with irons this year. Cabela's Pre-64 .270 Win Other than the .270 chambering, how'd I do on my 2nd pre-'64?

OldBrownDog: I hope it shoots well for you - Model 70's of that era are known for very respectable accuracy. Hold into the wind VarmintGuy

I think you did great. Rifle looks great. Not real original However, it is a very nice rifle and well worth what you paid for it. I wonder how the bore looks? Good luck with it and give us a range report after you shoot it.
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

Old Model 70 in common caliber is worth more with synthetic Mcmillan stock than with original plain walnut one.

Thanks guys. Really looking forward to shooting this, just ordered some ammo online since I forgot at Cabela's! I'll definitely give a report once I get some rounds through her.
BSA- to my visual inspection, the bore looked very good. Nice and shiny. Originality was not a concern, just saw and wanted a good rifle in a classic caliber at a fair price.

Don't worry about the rifle being coated. I have a 338 just like it. You need a good all weather rifle anyway right? I'd much rather hunt a rifle like that, than any rifle made now days. I read the threads in the other forums and hear about guys having problems with Kimbers, Tikka's, Sako's, Remington's and an occasional Savage every now and then. You just don't hear about a lot of problems with these old rifles. I even started a thread regarding this and besides some guy putting the wrong ammo in his 270 and blowing it to smitherines, the pre 64 is mostly trouble free and came out of the factory that way too. I look forward to hearing about the range report. Keep us posted. Also, remember if it doesn't shoot all too well, that will be the perfect candidate for a 35 Whelen or 9.3x62mm rebore.

Nice rifle.
Pretty sure that's a Brown Precision;possibly a Bansner.
The 280 Remington is overbore.
The 7 Rem Mag is over bore.

My first thought is that the stock is a Brown also.

My first thought is that the stock is a Brown also. You and Bob are probably right. That was also my first thought. It looks just like my brown pounder on my 338. I'm thinking the grip is too long and slender to be a bansner..

It is definitely a Brown. I'd never seen one in person before, but I pulled it and looked online, no doubt about it. Really happy I found this, somebody had some thought and money into it. Glad I could give it a good home.

Not sure anyone has mentioned this ... But that is a Brown stock. Nice rifle!
Anybody who seriously concerns themselves with the adequacy of a Big 7mm for anything we hunt here short of brown bear, is a dufus. They are mostly making shidt up. Crunch! Nite-nite!

I will be the contrarian here and say that based on the comb nose shape and the stock belly line, it looks like a Bansner stock to me.
Either way, its a nice handle..

Would look better with a 6x scope mounted on it.

I believe I looked at that one in the store the other day. I was impressed and it seemed lighter than I expected. Seemed to be a fwt. until I saw that hump on the barrel. Nice rifle.
