Kaleb- what I don't like about the A series of stocks is the pistol grip. It just does not feel good to be. The reason I am leaning the way I am is because The HTG is more traditional as is the tactical hunter. I just think it would make a much better all around stock. I may be wrong and regret my decision but the A series is not for me.

Very fine rifles Dave......the black one is sleek.

I put and HTG on .243 Win, 8 twist 20" RVC I built off an old Winchester push feed action simply because the options from McM were limited. It has since become one of my favorites. Not sure what it weighs, but carries nice.

The Black one is a Rem 722 in 17 MACH IV.
McMillian HBR.
Shilen No.5
Shilen Trigger.
Smithed by Scott and Stocked by TM.
25g Berger bullet over 19g of Norma N201. 3900 fps.
No recoil to speak of and you can watch the bullet "go in"
Its a sweethart.
I dont mind the pistol grip on a A series.
I dont think they bench very well.

Dave,
What is the gel mix on these? 60 blk 40 med gray?

IIRC the HTG accommodates the longest LOP available from McMillan.

The low comb of the HTG makes it horrible for prone. I much prefer an A3 or even a game scout.

Anything over a Rem VC gets an A5 though......

For comb height comparison.....

A-5 - 1/4"

Varmint - 1/2"

Sporter - 1/2"

Mountain - 9/16"

Game Scout - 9/16"

HTG - 5/8"

Classic - 11/16"

Some here may know better than I, but I thought that they may have changed the comb on the HTG a while back? It is still not as good as an A5, but may be better now than it was. An adjustable cheekpiece can always be added.

Not tried the TH stock. I can't see not having a vertical grip shooting prone. MOF, once you get used to using vertical grips, you start finding open grips uncomfortable. I know this statement will drive some of the traditional stock afficionados crazy, but it are true. A vertical grip places your hand in a more comfortable, natural position, with less stress on the wrist, and the wrist absorbing less recoil. Once you shoot them a lot, you start to wish everything felt that way. At least I do.....

I've got an A-3 in edge fill that just might fill your needs. Inlet for R700 SA with Badger M5 bottom metal for the AI mags.
In the classifieds now.

Yep 60 40.
14 inch LOP.
The other thing I do.
An old Nelson Berger trick.
Is to skid the action .5 of an inch forward.
Totally changes up how much room you have on the grip.
And how the gun handles.
Does mouse up the tang area alittle but worth it.
