Fixed ejector? I know it's happened with 1911's, ask Todd Jarret.

It is a Savage Axis rifle. They have a pin ejector in the bolt face.

Too many parts in those bolts...

Not sure if you could reef on a bolt hard enough, but guys with impact bullet pullers have had discharges.

Dude was probably pounding on the bolt trying to chamber a round. Something about the brass in the rifle action doesn't look right. Looks like the neck wasn't anywhere near the chamber when the round went off.

"Lyons was with a few friends on Sunday morning. He was sighting his bolt-action rifle when he started having troubles — he couldn't get the bullet to go down."

Seems to me that I have heard more bad news about Remington, e.g. triggers/safety and bolts than Savage. Savages may not be pretty but I have never heard of them falling apart.

That case in the video sure looks odd. Even the case neck looks unsupported but to blow that way the bullet would have to be have been jammed and unable to move forward. If the entire case and bullet were to be unsupported I would think that bullet would have popped off and case not exploded like the video.

Possible he tried to chamber the wrong cartridge? For instance, .30-06 instead of a .270 and didn't know it? Wouldn't go the first time and instead of stopping to see why, just rammed it home harder the second? Wild azz guess, but I wonder how often the wrong one might get put in a box either at the factory or by folks pulling them out and putting back in off the shelves at the store.

Rube Goldberg for sure designed the bolt mechanism's on Salvage rifles. They threw simple elegant design out the window when they introduced this crap.

Does that makes the buyer deserve a rifle that malfunctions?

I am guessing that some one may have photoshopped/flipped the initial photo right to left for some reason. Look at the orange camo spots on the right side of his hat in the photo, appear to be the same orange camo spots on the left side of his hat in the video.

Video clearly shows a right hand rifle, and an injury to the left side of his face. No visible damage to the scope or stock surrounding the ejection port. Possibly the rifle was rotated on it's left side while the shooter was looking into the ejection port and reefing on the bolt trying to get a jammed cartridge to chamber ?

It will be interesting to see how this plays out...
