Father in law gave me a bag he inherited. In was an old Lyman sight for a model 71 (rear). A couple of boxes of 348 win ammo. 1 box was well used but still has 14 rounds. Win silvertip. And a bag of 351 rounds. Box is in the bag but is barely together.

Anybody even shoot a 351 anymore? I'd like to get more info on the Lyman but don't know the model #. It's a side mount with micrometer type markings for adjustment.

Probably a Lyman 56W71 or 56a.

Thanks tmitch. I looked up both models and it's not one of them. Best I found was a 48wjs ( I believe). Knobs and all. Did the model 71 come with the 48?

I'm by no means an expert, but I think the 48 was mostly for round sided actions....Win 54, 70, Springfield '03, Mauser, etc.. From what I know the 56W71 was the Lyman receiver sight for the Model 71. Might be a model stamp on the sight & pictures would help.

*A Lyman 66A will fit a Model 71 also but came along toward the end of M71 production. If you're just comparing adjustment knobs, both coin slotted and knurled were available.

The 351 is used by some. Venturino did an article on it and another rifle just a while back - in Rifle, I believe.
