My lightest. Rem700 Mountain, B&C Ultralight stock, aluminum TG, Gre-Tan Shroud and pin, Leup 2.5-8 in Talleys. Trigger tuned and set LIGHT. That stock is a POS noodle. I had to mill a channel in the fore-end and epoxy in a section of carbon fiber arrow shaft to stiffen it adequately. The scope now has a turret since that pic. It was a good shooter out of the box and still is. I'm considering milliling it for a Wyatt''s extended mag box to bring the COAL up to where I can run the 162 Amax loaded long. It shoots that bullet very well, and that really extends the capability of the rifle.

The Savage 223 has a pretty darned good trigger on it. I tried some loads with 60 grain Partitions and 65 grain Sierra Game Kings that weren't nearly as good as this TTSX load. I am a bit bummed out on that. I like my bullets to have lead. People swear by TTSX bullets, so I'll see how they do on these small coastal deer. My Ruger Ultralight 223 seems to like the 50gr TTSX. This was my best group of the day with them and TAC. This group was 27.0gr at 3360fps. Got to load up some more of these and see if I can replicate this group. If so, I've found my load for this rifle. I figure it should be plenty for our small southern whitetails.

That is very good accuracy out of a Ruger UL. I looked for one in 223 for the longest time before I went for the Savage.

Actually the best group of the day was with the 63gr Sierra and Varget at 2957. I'll probably use these during the off season for crows, coyotes, and other varmints. I'll save the Barnes for deer.

I think I may have had to grind on the mag box a little to free it up. Same things I do to all my Rugers.

Bring your wallet! Seriously though, they are absolutely delightful rifles. My wife liked mine enough that I had to buy her a 7x57 K3 Stutzen. I had hers professionally shorted to fit her. Even in 7x57 recoil is very snappy. They do not exactly have a recoil pad either so the shoulder definitely takes the full hit. I shoot a 150 E-Tip at 3,000 fps in my 7mm RM and it's damn sharp. My limit is 9 rounds without a PAST. In my Wife's 7x57 I load a 150 to about 2,550 fps and it's still sharp, particularly to her. Her K3 is, without question, the prettiest rifle in the safe bearing full grain and fiddle front to end. Merkel picks some lovely lumber to stock their K's with. Absolutely zero regrets. Both rifles group sub 1" at 100. I've regularly shot 1.25" 200 yard groups.

lots of nice rifles!!!! my factory (at the moment) Model 70 FWT (.30-06), topped with a Leupold 2x7, Leupold dovetail mounts/rings- I was a bit surprised at the low weight (was guessing high 7, low 8)- a pretty svelte 7# 3.4 oz considering a McMillan Edge stock to push it under 7

mtwarden, Welcome to the fire. I am surprised how light your M70 is. Is the stock made of balsa wood?

This one got heavier. Kimber MT in 7 WSM by Pac-Nor. It had a Swaro 3-10x42 AV on it, which was a great fit on the rifle, very light, and optically spectacular. Now it has a 3-10x42 NF SHV in 30mm Talley extension rings. Heavier, but better.

Kimber MT in 7 WSM by Pac-Nor. This is sweet, especially in 7WSM.

mtwarden, Welcome to the fire. I am surprised how light your M70 is. Is the stock made of balsa wood? I am too; I positioned it a couple of different times on the scale- same results. I took a stack of 10 quarters (got the tip off the internet to check accuracy of a scale)- it was right at 60 grams, took the same stack to a more accurate scale (but only goes up to 6 lbs)- same 60 grams It's an older (70-ish) rifle, not sure that would have any bearing???? I'm going to reweigh it today as I had it figured (going by published weights of rifle, scope, mounts) at approx 7# 12-ish oz of course balsa wood is pretty light!

Talus - Oh yes! As my PH in Africa said after taking a shot "Oh my! She's a little bitch isn't she!"
9 rounds off the bench without a pad is all I can tolerate on the recoil front. Just 9 rounds. LOL!
