Turnover is done and big bass have moved into wintering areas, or close to them. This past weekend, friends in a Maine tournament with 27+ pounds for five fish, capped by a lunker of 7.47 pounds. Not a bad bag at all for northern waters. I need to get out....

Spotshooter those are two old veterans and they are happier than pigs in [bleep]... The fellow on the right is an old bass fishing pal of mine. I don't blame them for being happy,as a tournament stringer up here averaging 5 pounds plus is a very special day.

Its on here also (Clear Lake, California) as a guy just weighed in 5 for 46 lbs. Of course these are Florida but for Northers in Main that's darn good weight

coyote: Clear Lake is lunker city I hear! But i have never been there.
We don't have Florida's. I don't think they can survive our water temperatures. But we do have some good fish!
I won a tournament on that same lake with 26 pounds for 5 fish, year before last. That was in August.

Darn, they sure are black. I just thought that maybe they transplanted some back in the 80's when that was the popular thing to do. Any smallmouth in that body of water? powdr

We had our end of season tournament 3 weeks ago and managed to take 1st with a 23 lb 14 oz stringer. These were caught flipping to stumps in 2- 4 ft water.

RNF that sounds like fun! Nice bag! Close quarters combat!
We have stump fishing in some lakes here.
What are you dropping in those stumps to catch them?

We were flipping the Grandebass Mega Claws in black with blue flake past the stump them pulling it up against the stump and letting them drop into the roots. http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/GrandeBass_Mega_Claws_8pk/descpage-GRDBMGC.html

powdr: Not exactly; but the fish were in 20 feet of water so I suspect a jig of some type.

Maine has large and smallmouth fishing that rivals many places.
