Guess I missed the part in the OP about close range elk hunting.

Would I use them? yes. Have I shot an elk close range with them? no

The more stuff I kill with these bullets, the less I sit around and worry about them..I realize that is not the trend around here.

Rosco I never worry about other people's approach to game bullets; I just worry about my own. smile

I want to know what happens at both ends of the spectrum. Besides the comment was not directed at you....you just happened to be the handiest "respond", wink

It was purely an academic comment anyway; I see no advantage to them and have no interest in using them.

Worrying about bullets did not start for me since I found this place; I been doing it since about 1970 after I figured out they were the only thing that killed the animals. Figured I might as well use something built for the purpose. smile

It's good to have choices. No flies on the 155 Scenar. The new EldX line has some good ones to consider. Even the 178 ELDX wouldn't suck.

For LONG range I would consider the ELD-X. But for what the OP says, the 200-AB @ .588 BC will "do it all". I shot a bunch of them from my 300WM out well past what he's proposing; it's a solid intermediate range bullet IMHO. And a real elk bullet to boot!

Calvin I've been playing with the ELD-X in my 7 WSM and have seen great accuracy and (the really cool part) it flies right with the 162 Amax to a long ways out (900+) . However I have seen spotty terminal ballistic reports on the ELD-X coming in this fall. A number of outright core/jacket separations. I'd say the jury is still out on the ELD-X myself.
