Started my November hunt on the first. Seeing lots of birds. House is great. Nice group of guys who came to hunt with me this first week. Dogs are hunting super good.

Had to replace my throttle sensor in Billings (just put a new one in 2 months ago) on the way over.

Deer ran in front of me near Broadus so bumper is trashed.

Weather is warm so packing water for my dogs.

Off to a good start.

Very nice! Do you happen to know which deer zone your place is in? I've got more than a handful of points there and am considering a buck and bird hunt somewhere next year.

What do you mean by "house is great?"

Killing lots of roosters this season in South Dakota. Weather has been beautiful. Dogs are holding up well. I'm here for another two weeks.

Yes, it is good to hunt pheasants in South Dakota. I was hunting near Pierre with a group of guys from Nebraska and we did pretty well - limited out each of three days for the hunt. We too experienced temps in the 60's. It was little hard on the dogs but we would take a break after each march through a filed to water and rest the dogs.

We should be in the Chamberlain area mid-December. Looking forward to it very much.

Mid-December -- the rush of non-res's is over and there are a lot of birds still available though they "beat feet" like a cat on a hot tin roof at this point. And, not insignificantly, the weather is a crap-shoot where you might experience sun, mild 60's, or a foot of snow and -20 F with gales that will go through a truck door..

Love it.

Well, we were in the Chamberlain, SD area the 15-17th, perfectly timed with the snow storm wafting in from the west right along with wind and dropping temps. Thursday was 15-20 mph breezes -- not bad -- but coupled with high humidity and low single degrees F* for a wind chill in the negative single digits.

Friday was the same but with the added bonus of wet snow to about eight inches at about - 10-15*. Many of the semi-auto's, getting wet and freezing, failed to cycle after one shot. Some safeties were difficult to push off. The doubles/O/U's had ejectors fail. I actually had no problems whatsoever with my Benelli Ultralight. I even managed one double this day.

Saturday was clear and colder yet with at least -20* wind chill with the same winds. The birds were season graduates often getting up a quarter to a half mile ahead as we started pushing the shelter belts; still we limited out each day with our gang of twelve usually hunting four hours or less each day.

Each day I thought we might call it finis as we are mostly the over-the-hill-gang or within a decade of it but..we trudged on.

It was satisfying. I intended to take many pic's of the fine dog work, companions, etc., and though I took a few, each moment seemed to be filled with raucous cackling and wings exploding to break free of the cover or the promise of it. So I always seem to under achieve with a camera and then later regret it.

It was thoroughly enjoyed.

12 limits in 4 hours is some dang good hunting! Well done! Were you guys hunting public accessible lands or did you pay for access? I'm already starting to plan next years trip(s) for me and the pooch.

3-12 man limits in about 12 hours -- 4 hours per day over 3 days. So about 36 birds per day which amounted to about 4 hours each. Just to clear the math up.

Yes, we hunt private lands and pay a daily guide/trespass fee due to the size of our group and I don't think any of us would say it's not worth it; that's not to say there are not good walk-in opportunities elsewhere because there are.

Thanks for the clarification. Either way the math is done that is a lot of birds! It took my group of 4 three days to kill as many birds as you guys were doing by lunch and I thought we were into birds. Lol.
