So over the weekend I picked up what I thought was a long action Remington 700 bolt,to fit an action I had. Dimension and overall appearance are identical. However, there is no groove on the right lug. Is this bolt for an earlier model, or perhaps a different gun all together? Thanks in advance!

That bolt is pre-'74, the year Remington added the groove to engage a track milled into the receiver rail to decrease bolt wobble/binding.

I have both vintages, never noticed bolt binding with the older guns. It shouldn't be hard to mill the groove in that bolt.

Probably easier to swap that one for a grooved version.
