Anyone own one of these? If so, what are your opinions. The factory threaded barrel appeals to me, option to run a suppressor. But I cannot find the specs on the threads anywhere! I may have to break down and call Browning.

I have one of the X Bolt Hells Canyon Speed rifles in 6.5 Creedmoor. I just got it and have not shot it to comment on accuracy. I am mounting the scope this weekend and hope to report back soon. Co workers who have purchased the same rifle in different calibers have seen very good results. All 1" or less at 100 yards.

It is a nicely balanced rifle and comes with pretty much every feature you would want. I am not a huge fan of DBM's, but Browning's is about the nicest out there. It *feels* slightly heavier than the 6lb 5oz weight but it is not bad.

Not sure on the threads, but just in eyeballing I believe the brake set up is the same one that the Long Range model uses at 5/8" x 24

Got the scope on it today. Ended up doing a Vortex HS LR 4x16x50. It is a little heavier than most people probably run on these but the weight is in the center and feels really balanced.

I am interested in the Speed as well, as the one I handled recently was pretty nice. However, the threads on the brake are an odd metric size. According the the Browning parts CSR, they did this to try and have customers only use Browning parts on the rifle. It made it very difficult to get a suppressor mounted onit, as that was a wish of mine. Evidently, the long range, heavier version is a standard pattern but the Speed is not, yet.

Hard to believe the barrels all go through the same hole and somewhere they though it better to mix and match thread sizes.....

Contact Browning Parts and they can tell you. I already deleted the email which had the size listed and can't remember the exact dimensions, other wise I would post it. I wanted to buy a thread adapter but could not find one for it.

Per some online forums, it is known as M13x1.25.

I just emailed Support and should have a definitive answer Monday morning that will be posted.

What does the thread protector look like? Hard to tell from the photos. I really like the looks of the rifle but I wander how durable the finish is. I also read somewhere that the barrel isn't stainless.

If you magnify my pic above you can see the thread protector on mine. It just looks like the barrel.

I am not sure about the steel but believe you are correct in that it is not stainless. The Cerakote is pretty thick and has been durable thus far through my clumsy handling and optics mounting.

Update:

Here is what I got this morning from Browning verbatim:

Hello John,

Thank you for the email. The threads of the X-bolt Hell's Canyon Speed is metric, M13 x 0.75".

Best Regards,

So if a guy were to go to cabelas or scheels... and take a thread protector off of let's saw a ruger American predator 308whivh is 5/8 x24. It would fit in the speed... think they would let me try this?

Should not be a big deal to tap and adapter 13 and turn 5/8 thread on od if my feeble cells are agreeing today.

Says 13 od is .511ish and minor on 5/8 is .596. Hope that helps.
