Trimmed to meet PCR regs, Cuz popped this one around 45 yards this morning. Dropped with neck shot, Barnes not recovered.
160# dressed.

I saw two squirrels, but hunted my Ruger #1........so was all smiles (since my rifle is pretty).

Not big, but I'd have shot him. 19" inside spread.


Note: my cuz closed his CVA gently to be quiet in stand and when the deer showed, his hammer wouldn't stay cocked. He had to break the gun open, clank it shut and then it would cock. Deer didn't notice.

He did the same error with a TC last yr, that cocked, but went "click" and not "boom".

That on a 160" buck.

My guess is with that, and this episode.........he about blew a gasket. So yeah..........he's looking at rebarreling a #1 to 35 rem.

Your post had me looking up CVA 35 REM for sale and they seem to be pretty much dried up, just like H&R 35 REM single shots.

That in the Scout would be tempting.
Heck I might just get one in .44 mag for the heck of it.
Liked my Contender Super 16, shot great, was light (even after adding weight to forend to help stabilize it for offhand shooting). If it was 18.5" I'd have kept it.

Sold the bbl and went super 14 in handgun. No taper, looks better than making a handgun from the Super 16.

Only thing that pisses me off about the CVA, the buttstock sling attach. Wish it was a swivel stud instead of recess ala Rem crap stuff.

Nice buck! Saw a CVA over the holiday for the first time. Neat little gun! Shop had the 243's at $225. For that price and size I'm strongly thinking of getting one for the boys to use! I assume accuracy in his was fairly easy to come by?

My cousin picked up one in 7-08 for his daughter and since she became a teen and doesn't hunt much he has been using it himself. I loaded some Nosler 120s and sighted it for him. It is very accurate and the recoil is light, even though the gun is petite.

Those calibers are big sellers in states where .35 caliber and larger single shots are legal for primitive season.

I've got one in a 7mm08. it drove me crazy with vertical stringing until I realized I had to load it down to near 3030 pressures and then it did very well.


this was Final testing at 200 yards with my favorite load and a 2-7 scope there's actually 10 bullet holes under that $10!

That's a nice Buck ! I have a NIB H&R Camo 35 Rem. It was a combo special 35 Rem / 444 and I sold the 444 Barrel. Thinking about selling the 35 Rem in the box. I haven't even shot it. I have a Model 7 KS 35 Rem which I like better.

I found 2 leftover of the discontinued CVA 35 Rem SS scout's and bought em both. Heading to the FFL's to pick them up today. Gonna make a nice little thumper.

Ive got em in 223, 243, 7mm08 and now the 35 Rem.

They arent match rifles but they dang sure are good enough for hunting. Each had its own proffered brand to shoot, but any brand i tried was acceptable for hunting under 150 yards.


Academy sports sells em blued for under $200 . I didnt pay more than $240 for the SS ones I bought online.
