Joel we were at the same place the 24HCF hunt was last spring, but weren't confined to a small area by the rains. We got to hunt other ranches-low fence ( as if the pigs care) that Jody could only talk about this spring. We were covered up with pigs! And mostly in good light! My first evening sit got these two...

How did they get that one pig hung up by just a front hoof?

ingwe, great job... Looks like the old std. twist .22-250 does a fine job.. What did the pigs weight???? When we shot pigs to eat, nothing much over 100 pounds was killed.. But you may have been doing population control.. Nice work..

WCH...I got carried away...the smallest was 120 and they went up to 160...which was a stinky old boar that got "donated" Otherwise they are all sows and the meat smells fine...

Okay...I should explain...the pig hunt went into what we shall call " Sudden Death Overtime" and that spotted sow suffered the " Sudden Death" part. grin

Ed, as I told Joel, we were at Prickley Pear, and got to the ranches on the other side of the road, near the river. We were covered up in hogs! It was a great time!

I knew you were headed back to the Prickly Pear, but I'm tickled to see what happens when you aren't confined by that blasted mud. Lawson and I had a great time as it was, but I am really looking forward to making it down that way this March.

I am hoping that George will find a way to make the trip this time. Gunner too. This place is really nice.

Dan, it was so good I never hunted in the mornings ( not a morning person...) Worst evening I had 16 hogs in easy range, other evenings it was 30 +. Killed out in two evenings and tacked on a fourth pig my last evening. New cook was phenomenal and it just plain couldn't have been better.

Chris...since Im old now, this kind of thing is the wave of the future for me. No more climbing mountains and slaying great beasts and packing them out. The sleep-in mornings, 4 star accommodations and food, the folks who clean, quarter, and chill your game....all seem to be making this transition a smooth one. whistle

I'll second the poobah on this one. My hat is off to the young, who with good knees, hips and back are able to pack into the mountains and camp while hunting game. They sleep on the ground and cook their meals with a jet boil, then pack their quarry out on their backs.

I'm old, fat and broke down. I prefer to sleep on a mattress and don't mind sleeping till after the sun has already come up. I like shooting things, much more than hunting for things to shoot. I'll also add that I get as much out of the fellowship in camp among friends I don't see enough of, as I would seeing the sun come up in some remote spike camp.

That is just me. I realize I may be less for it, but I guess I am simple that way.

to each his own.

A 9mm would be a nice thing to have if you can't bring a gun...

Besides, we already know shooting Gunner just pisses him off....

Bobby, I'll bring em if invited. Going to bring the Sig Legion in 9mm also. Fine shooting pistol. You two will be too accurate with it and make me feel like a real bad shot.
Will hunt with the Noveske 5.56 and 77gn this time.

Anyone with a septic system or a blue box know what a Honey Dipper is.

Old name but they are still in use, except with a vacuum truck now days. No bucket

Right about now I'd like to see that beast of a red stag, that was hanging around a feeder last spring. Probably can't afford to choot him, but I would like to take his picture.

Funny thing about Becky. I took a fifth to deer camp last weekend, and hunting pards asked me about it, tried it for the first time. I left it by the campfire Friday night, and by Sunday morning two guys had polished off about 2/3's of a fifth. smile

I think the leading bribe contender will be called "Garrison Brothers" which is a Texas Bourbon. It smokes....

I should have a .300 RUM sorted out by March. It weighs about 8 lbs w/o scope, and has no sissy muzzle brake, perfect for real men like you.

The idea for the RUM arose when watching a big aoudad, 500+ yards away, watching me, and a strong gusting crosswind between us. I think he was smiling at me. smirk

And it is something different than my .300 Weatherby smile

Since the pigs in March will be eating size, I'm thinking .38-55 Ruger, and/or .300 Savage M1920. Maybe a M99 takedown in the same caliber. And probably a Kimber 7mm-08 in case it's raining.

Heck, maybe a crossbow, too smile

If there's blood on the plate then the steak is too rare (yes there is such a thing) and/or was not properly rested before cutting into it.

You have such a hard time expressing yourself...

Chill out. We will cook your meat to your liking or even put beans in your chili ( I personally won't, but I'll get somebody else to...) but your attendance at the hunt is required.
