Kinda pleased how this turned out. Lyman 311041 at about 12 BHN with ALOX and my version of powder coat (mica/graphite). Load #3 might be a keeper, but there is more work to do.

Trapper version, vintage '84. Only took 32 years to try cast bullets? What was I thinking?

50 yards, bag rest......

Don't doubt that, but if all else fails I have one or two already!

I'm shooting the RCBS 30-180-FN with 22 grs. of IMR 3031 which is a tack driver in my rifle at about 1600 fps. I'm also using the same bullet with WC844 & about the same results as yours.

311291 sized to 309, Hornady gc, and 4198 worked great in both my Winchester and slightly less in my 336.
I have an old 200 grain rn, no check, that is really good to fifty yards or so with a pinch of Unique.
You will find that experimentation with plumbum gets addictive. Even the Spitzer cast bullets perform well single loaded or with one in the spout and ONLY one in the mag.

+1 on Creeker's suggestion of the RCBS 180 FN and IMR 3031, it has been many years since I have loaded .30-30 for use in Winchester M/94 but this combination was one that gave good results for me too.

If you have any SR-4759, try 15 grains of it behind that (or any) 180 grain cast bullet. I load a 190 grain cast flat nose as a hunting load in both .30-30 and .303 Savage, albeit with a stiffer charge of 3031- 28 grains. For years I used a 180 RN, but switched to the 190 FN because, well, because. And I wanted to. I use this load in Savage lever guns, a Winchester M54, and the 336's of two of my hunting buddies.

Ran 3 loads of 4759 including the one you referenced. Not bad groups but not as good as the H335. Surprised me a bit actually. Was shooting a Savage 24 in .30-30 awhile back and it preferred the 4759 by wide margin.

Just goes to show just how versatile the old .30-30 really is. I confess to being a .30-30 nut. If I were allowed only one cartridge to mess with the rest of my life, make it a .30-30 if you please.
