I picked up a sporterized Enfield M1917 a couple of months ago that had a Weaver 330 scope in Stith mounts on it. The rig is old and worn out, but just totally captured my interest. I want to kill a deer with it in the worse way.

The scope has a post reticle and tracks well and is solid despite it's rough exterior. It was about 3-4" off when I shot it, but adjusted perfectly. I fired several 2-3" groups that were all horizontally dispersed. I think that was due to my inability to hold the post perfectly on the bull. I swear I think it would stack the bullets on top of each other if I could keep the post centered horizontally.

The problem is that the lens are very foggy or milky. I figured I would use it for stalk hunting in mid-day to maximize visibility. Took it out for the first time today. No deer tried to commit suicide, but I did dispatch an armadillo. Even at 25 yards, it was hard to pick him up through the milky lens.

I wonder if there is anyone out there that could clean this scope at least a little to clear up the visibility. I sent two ElPaso Weavers to the place in TX years ago to get reworked, but I think they are out of business now. Even then, I don't know if they ever worked on 330s.

Anyone know of a cure for my scope?

Those scopes are not sealed and are pretty easy to get the front and back lenses out of to clean. I did this on a Weaver 440 and also made a new cross hair using Tungsten wire. You just need to make a tool to fit the little nutz on each end. I think I actually used a pair of needle nose pliers with the tips ground on mine but you have to be very careful not to let them slip.

Greg, you are a braver man than me! I may take a look at it, but suspect I will send it to someone for cleaning and reassembly. Thanks for the response.

BTW, you should be hearing from CowboyTim about the reamer pretty soon.

I did. Thanks for the help there. I'd offer to do it but wouldn't be comfortable working on someone else's stuff without the right tools and fixtures. I think I have a list of places that repair/clean scopes and will try to find it at home. For what you want, just about any of them should be able to do it and hopefully a lot faster than 10-12 months that one of them takes.

May want to give L&K a call, they would probably be able to handle it, turnaround isn't too bad either.
