I have recently had pre-chambered Jarret barrel in .416 Remington Mag barrel mated to a Remington 700 receiver. Our own Redneck did the work and I am happy to say the action functions flawlessly.

I bedded PTG BDL Oberndorf Bottom Metal into a Borden Rimrock stock and find the floorplate pops open on each shot regardless of whether or not there are cartridges in the magazine. I understand this is not unusual with a big boomer.

Can any of you with experience with this sort of issue lead me in the right direction. Stronger latch spring? Cut the latch recess deeper? Open to suggestion before I leap in and Bubba this thing up.

I'm not familiar with that bottom metal but the first thing to try would be a stronger spring. That is the most easily reversed of all the solutions.

the easiest solution is duct tape but it looks like hell, you see it all the time on rifles carried by people who get shot at. you are on the right track though, I would try a stronger spring before I cut anything

The fix IS a stronger spring. I've noted that issue with the PTG unit before.. Five minutes and you'll be back in business..

If you don't have/can't obtain the right spring, just send the offending BM piece to me and I'll take care of it.. Use the USPS flat-rate small box and it'll be the cheapest method, IYAM..

I like that. Less intrusive might be a drill and perhaps a sheet metal screw.

I had the same problem with their bottom metal on my M70 416 Rem. I switched to their M70 style BM and the issue went away.

Redneck was right. Called PTG & they sent me another, far stronger spring. A couple minutes later the problem was solved.
