Somebody posted about using Gorilla packing tape for drop charts on stocks where regular packing tape won't stick. I have searched for the original post and cannot find it. Whoever posted that - Thank You!

This is the only thing I didn't love about my Kimber Montana - packing tape will not stick to the finish, so attaching drop charts required wrapping the tape around the butt, tape would kink, split, peel, etc.

Bought some gorilla tape, cleaned the stock up and it sticks great!

David, I hear you on the problem with normal packing tape on textured glass stocks. .

I've not seen Gorilla packing tape though I love their duct type tape. I am assuming the packing tape is clear?

Edit: your edit makes it "clear"!

Thanks for the tip!

Have you tried removing it. Camo painting my Montana stock and concerned about the tape removing paint. We use gaffers tape onstage and it can destroy plywood and remove paint from scenery. Just wondering.

That piece has been on there since Friday and made a trip to the range w/o ever seeming like it was going to peel off. Your post freaked me out a little and I just went and peeled it off.

Came off easy. I "laminated" my chart between two pieces of gorilla tape and was able to peel it off and re-use. Seems OK. I don't know how it will be after being stuck there for months, but doesn't seem like it will be a problem.

You are welcome.

I ripped a dope sheet off a painted McM today that'd been on for weeks and no issue fwiw. It's also great on ADL mag boxes undersides and for keeping cowboy hats on pointy heads.

Have wondered what folks are using.

Chit happens, but if tape will pull your paint off, it was applied incorrectly or was the wrong stuff for the substrate... The good stuff should cling like automotive paint. Scrub like hell, degrease, and use adhesion promoter. Bulldog is good, it's like a layer of glue under the paint.

I used double-sided carpet tape under the sheet (index card) on a couple last fall, then clear packing tape over the whole. Seemed to work real good. And no peelage after 11 months upon removal.

I prefer something like this...I don't want tape and adhesive residue on the stock...JMO on the matter, everyone use what they choose.

What you need is one of those forearm bands pro QBs use. Surprised someone isn't selling one in camo.

That may work too...but I prefer to have it on the rifle. I just figure it can stay there and I won't cove it with a jacket sleeve or something. I have had that idea before, though.

I put my chart on my rangefinder. If I don't need the rangefinder I don't normally need the drop info. I am also at the stage in life where I need to "long arm" it to see smaller print and I can do so more stealthily with the RF than I can moving 3' away from the stock.

I used to tape to the stock, but now have to "long arm" it a bit as the Texan said. I just put my range card on an elastic cord. Up side is I can keep a cheek weld.

I use either Duck HD Clear or Gorilla Clear packing tape on both wood and synthetic stocks. Neither has come loose in the field, nor have they removed any stock finish when I changed out drop charts.
