43gr Varget & 4064 shoot very well with Hor. 150gr SP & Sierra 150gr PH, under 1"@100yd 4/shot groups. Maybe a little slow compared to other loads but my Rem. & Ruger likes them. Case OAL 2.750 as recommended by Hor. & Sierra.

Varget and IMR4064 work well with 150gn bullets in a 308, although in my experience W748 and Alliant PowerPro 2000-MR give greater velocity.

A bit of update on the 150g bullet with Varget. My son shot a 50 yard target yesterday and the three were touching in an almost linear line. Group was .75MOA and this is what is going to have to do since we hunt in the woods and cannot see more than 40/50 yards out. So I said lets stick with this. The load was Rem brass, Fed 210, Varget 40.4 Anyway it seems to shoot Varget well but I told my son that if you not shooting at 100 yards the 24HR will call you a liar lol.

That's an extremely mild load. Did you chronograph it?

Varget is your go to powder in my experience. Followed by IMR 4064.

I use 46.3 grains of Varget behind a Sierra 155 grain #2156 Palma bullet when shooting Palma matches. Deadly accurate out of a 31 inch Kreiger barrel.

Two powders showing promise for me with the 150 SST are IMR4895 and AA2015BR.

I use 44.5 grains of Varget with Interlock boat tails in my BLR. Just over 2,600 fps and very accurate. Works very well on deer.

The 300 Savage has done the job on deer for a long time.

mathman,

Sorry for the late come back. Been hunting with son. Anyway as for the mild load of 44.0 with Varget I have it now at 44.2g of Varget and will probably increase it a little more until I see pressure. I have a chrono but at the LGS range it is hard to set up so I have not used it yet. This rifle seems to shoot better .050 from the lands (ogive) but at time it seem to live it off lands by .020 and it seem to be a little inconsistent. Will keep working with it primarily bec components for .308 are rather easy to find. I should mnention I am often getting 2 shots touching and then one shot is like 1" or so away. Thanks for chiming in. BTW I have not tried the H4895 powder and may try that although the consensus is Varget is the preferred powder for this combo.
