In a home 100% free from unsupervised children, I think it is a good idea. I have a mentor (former Air Force LtCol who served in Air America during Vietnam) who has several handguns hidden like that throughout his 5,000 square foot home in Pensacola, FL. He told me he wants to have access to a hand gun in every room, just in case.

The pistol in the book is fine, and it looks like a very nice Savage 1907 in 32.

But the book is a 1st edition 1936 copy of Gone With the Wind. Would have been worth about $20,000 without the pages cut up.

Why doesn't he carry one on his belt?

I actually do both, i.e., a few handguns stashed about, and carried on my belt from waking till bedtime.

I'm sure if he needs suggestions on how to vacuum seal a pistol for the shower, you'll be first on his contact list.

Damn, that's hard to look at.
