I occasionally hunting with Winchester 100s in 243 and 308 and think that they are decent hunting rifles. They aren't as accurate as some, but the 243 has never failed to shoot "Minute of Coyote" and its 308 brothers have never failed to shoot "Minute of Whitetail". I tight cover, where you're likely to jump a deer and only get a moving shot, having 4 rounds in the magazine that you can fire as quickly as you lay the sights and squeeze the trigger isn't a handicap.

Minty pre 64 308 is probably a little more than $400 around here but there aren't too many guys looking for one.

260Remguy: I think the original poster was more interested in "completing his collection" than in Hunting with said Rifle?
They are cool Rifles and many folks have Hunted with them - including me.

Levers: I agree - a minty pre-64 Model 100 should be worth MORE than $400.00.
I would buy them all day long at that price for such a specimen!

Yes, I actually caught that.

I didn't know that anyone actually collected Winchester 100s, but I guess that there are people out there collecting all kinds of things. Other than my orthodontist, Dr. Matt Lipski, I've never know anyone who hunted with a Winchester 100 and I don't recall that I've ever seen one in the field or at the range that didn't belong to me.

Cool, I had one that was made in '61 and really liked it. I prefer the checkering over the basket weave pattern. A m100 in good condition should bring $400.00 like the lefty bea said. I paid $350.00 for the one I had a few years ago. It was a pretty nice rifle. However, it had a recoil pad installed, which takes away from the value of the rifle...
