I need opinions on scope choice for my Tikka .260. I had a Leupold 4x12x40mm A.O. but had to send it back to the factory for the second time for the same reason. I need at least 12x on the upper end. The rifle will be used for hunting. I've always used Leupold so I don't know about other brands. My price range is $450-$500 max. Any good glass out there for that price ?

Sacrifice your next case of decent beer and you you can have a Meopta (Cabelas Instinct Euro) 4-12. $400-$500 is a good place to be for 3-9's/3-10's. A few more dollars is nice if you want the same quality glass with more magnification.
Vortex Viper maybe.

There is a 3-15 SWFA in the classifieds for Black Friday price.

dpd,
I would not hesitate to put a Tasco World Class 4-16X40 on it. You can get one for less than $100. If you like it you are finished. If it's good enough it's good enough till you can get something you like more.

Leupold has the best customer service on planet earth!!!!!
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

Why is it that you need 12x? Is it a target scope?
You did not "seen" anything, you "saw" it. A "creek" has water in it, a "crick" is what you get in your neck. Liberals with guns are nothing but hypocrites.

If Leupold has the best customer service on the planet, why is it going back for the same issue ????? As far as needing 12X , my old eyes don't see like they used to.

What does your Tikka get used for? I have three 260s, two hunting guns and a target gun. They all wear Leupolds- a 2.5x8 and a 3.5x10 on the hunting guns, and a LR 4.5x14 on the target gun. Each seems adequate for the intended purpose of the gun and for the range that I expect to engage targets/game with each. I bought the target scope out of the classifieds here for $625 (one of four that I've bought in that price range). The 2.5x8 I bought for $300 - the 3.5x10 I bought new for $400. Keep your $$ ready, and be patient/observant. Kaiser Norton

Like a 6x myself, but in that price range you can get a new model Weaver Grand Slam 4-16x44...awfully nice glass and Weaver has an excellent reputation for tracking accurately. Natchez has them on sale right now for $279. Weaver Grand Slam OR Give Doug a call on a =Vortex-Diamondback-HP-3-12x42---De...catalog[product_guids][0]=1116845]Vortex Diamondback HP 3-12x42. He has demo units right now for $249 awesome glass at twice that price. I've looked through them, but never used one so I can't comment on durability. Had one for a while, just never did find the "right" rifle for it(but then I'm mostly a fixed power guy, not the scopes fault).
