I'm researching hing various stock options for a project. I'm putting together a fairly lightweight M70 30-06. I've used McM with Edge technology on several but am not enamored with the Edge Compact stock. I like the Classic. The Edge fill on the Classic will weigh 28 oz or so according to McM.

The Manners Elite Hunter series looks very promising. They have a little less drop at both the comb and heel and are a bit lighter. Price and wait time about the same.

Any feedback from those using a Manners, esp the EH3, EH6, or EH8?

Thanks.

I've had and still have lots of Edge stocks - Mostly Hunter's Edge and a few Classic with Edge fill.

I'm going with Manners stocks now after trying a few. I have a couple of EH4's (with the shorter forend) and a SL on my hunting rifles. I have another EH4 on order and also ordered a EH8 to try.

The EH4's are excellent stocks as is the SL. But the EH4's fit me better if you don't mind the palm swell on the grip. I love it.

You'll just need to try one and see if you like it. I like them better now than my Edge stocks, and I'll probably convert most of mine with McMillans over to the Manners EH stocks.

Good info - thanks.

A question, do all the Manners have a palm swell? I didn't think tbey did.

Have an Edge for a M70 LA you want to replace? 😁

I had an EH3 on a couple rifles. Easily my favorite over a Classic, mostly due to comb height, and grip angle. Don't get me wrong, I like the Classics but they suffered in cheek weld while shooting prone.

For what it's worth, I took my Kimber Montana stock off a LA yesterday to measure and weigh it. It weighs 28.2 oz with the trigger guard and is 30.5" long. I also measured the drop. Eyeballing centerline of the barrel and bore, I got 9/16" drop at both comb and heel. Kimber specs say 0.43" at comb which is 7/16" and 0.54 (~9/16) at comb. I like a stock with minimal drop. I think 3/4" at heel would be about perfect.

My only concern with the Manners is there statement about keeping minimal drop to accommodate scopes with larger objectives. I hate Hubble telescope mounted on rifles...... I run a max of 42mm and for this rifle probably 36mm in VX3 config.

I don't mind going with slightly higher mounts even with smaller objective scopes. As long as eye placement and cheek weld are great,I like the better bolt clearance and scope cover clearance.

Ha. Mine are all Rem 700. May have a few for sale.....but won't be for 3 or 4 months.

And no.....I believe some of the newer designs do not have the palm swell. It should say in the descriptions on the Manners website.

That helps alot - thank you!

It seems the EH8 is similar to the McM Compact.

Yes it is. I have an EH-6 around here somewhere but it doesn't have a barreled action in it. The palm swell is definitely thicker and more pronounced on the EH-6.

Any more pics of an EH6 and EH8 - trying to decide between the two for an all purpose .308 on an M70 action.

I've posted up a few pics of EH6's the past few months. Just check out my recent posts, won't be hard to find.

The EH8 runs about 2 ounces lighter if you're looking to shave every last ounce.

I'm going to build a light weight 7-08 over the winter and fall. I want to put a scope more for general hunting and the objective will be at the largest 42mm objective lense. I think this EH8 may be hard to make talley Lows or X-tra Lows to work. Anyone used one with a a-line Swarovski 42mm or the older diavari c with 36mm objective?

I love the looks of the stock, but it's gotta work for the direction I'm headed.

Running talley lows and 42mm objectives with my EH6's which have the same drop as the EH8. Extra lows would work, too. What makes you think they wouldn't work?

I figured the raised cheek piece on the eh8 would get my cheek weld too high and not align with scope. My hunters edge with Lows is about perfect and it has no cheek piece at all. I'll likely give it a go. I want to try a manners. I've never owned one. I just like the looks and I want something other than a Mickey this go round.
