A few years ago I bought an at lower just to have. I just purchased an upper with forward assist from midway and have plans to buy a bolt carrier group and charging handle from PSA. My main question revolves around the barrel. I think that I want a 16 or 18 inch stainless barrel with a 7 or 8 twist with wild or 556 chamber that I can blast with and punch paper,targets, a d animals when pa legalizes semi autos. I'm thinking that a profile similar to a colt 6920 would be about right.

My barrel budget is about 300 bucks and idont need a bolt. I see a few white oak armament barrels for 250. How are they? What other brands are good? My neighbor who was an army armorer is going to help with assembly.

White oak barrels are typically wilson match grade barrels, I've had a couple and they are tack divers. They tend to be a tad heavy, but not enough to cause me hesitation.

White Oak Armament makes great Barrel's, some others are Blackhole Weaponry, McGowen Precision,just to name a few. If you buy one of their stocked barrel's with no fluting or anything you should be able to get one for your budget.

FYI if you go with a Blackhole Weaponry give Ritch at Rich's Precision Gun's a shout he can save you some money on the barrel.

WOA has great folks, call them and ask which brand the barrel you are looking at, they will tell you.

It would seem you are on the right track. Modest but decent parts and seeking to employ a good+ quality barrel. I used a Wilson barrel with Wylde chamber and couldn't be happier. Just remember: parts ain't just parts, and in this game you usually get what you pay for.

So PA is considering allowing autoloaders for hunting? I hadn't heard. All those 760's will be flooding the used market I suppose!

No sir the Amish are buying all. Of the 760s. Our game commission was just granted permission from the state to allow semi Autos for hunting. At the very least I wold expect that semi autos well be approved for hunting vArmits.

++10 on WOA barrels. I have 1-8 & 1-12 twist. The 1-12 is a bugholer with 40-55 grain bullets but won't shoot over 60 gr. worth a crap. I'd say go 1-8 twist with a Wylde chamber. Just my HFO.

Would a 1 in 8 shoot 40 v max as well as 62 tsx?

For 223 wylde I recommend his 18" rifle gas 3-gun barrel. It is a great shooter for a great price.

I would look at the ARP barrels too. The couple that I have had were great shooters.

It should shoot anything up to about 80 grains.

okay guys. I went out and put some of my finger prints on some guns. When the guns started to run over 7 pounds they started to feel a bit heavy to me.

Keeping with that weight class I think that I want to run a gun that is between 6.5 and 7 pounds.

A colt 6920 weighs like 6 pounds 13 ounces. But it does have the heavy heavy front site on it. I read online that the barrel on these weigh in at about 28 ounces plus the front site. If I wanted to cut out the front site I could add up to another 6 ounces on the barrel weight if I wanted to.

I'm currently looking at the 16 and 18 inch barrels from arperformance, criterion, black hole weaponry, and white oak. Black hole has some 1 in 9 barrels that look good for the 50 grain lead free bullets that I might want to throw and it would also throw the 62 grain bullets. The rest of the companies are making 1 in 8 twist barrels. Really the biggest concerns here are price, weight, and accuracy. I still haven't decided what I want to get.

I would have just bought a Colt 6920 and been done with it. You will have less quality and more money in your parts gun. It is very hard to beat the 6920 in my opinion. I love mine nad it is not going anywhere. Good shooting.

I have a PSA built midlength upper with a pencil barrel and their lightweight M-lock free float handguard. Really like the feel of this gun. My RRA carbine hangs on target nicely,but is an anchor to handle. The PSA is light and lively in my hands. The m4 profile might work out well.

The legislature may have approved semis, but you know, the PGC will drag their feet and tangle this up in as much red tape as possible. I have another complete lower, can't decide what upper I want. If they get moving and make these things legal for deer, I am leaning 7mm valkyrie.

You can't go wrong with ARP. I've got one of his 6.8 barrels and hope to buy more. Great quality for the money.

here is a slightly used rainier arms barrel. They are cut from shilen blanks.

black hole weaponry thinks that they can make me a slim profile 18 inch barrel that will weigh two pounds. Does this sound about right?

I would think so I have a Black Hole Weaponry barrel that is honeycomb fluted and weights 2lb or just a little under.
