Some of what I'm after has been touched on in other threads but if given a budget of, say, $500, what would you coyote callers go for. Less is more of course if it is good.

I've been a spot-and-stalk-Hunter exclusively but that requires snow which is not always present in sufficient quantities to make spotting easy so wishing to expand my opportunities, I'm looking for, 1) ease and simplicity of operation and reliability in negative digit temps and 2) long range capabilities.

Does a decoy help that much? Thanks for your responses.

Screw a $500 caller. I've had at least a half dozen FoxPros, a Wildlife Dimension, an Alpha Dog, and a Johnny Stewart electric call. Anymore... I just use the iHunt speaker and phone app from Ruger.... it's a great e-call with 7000 sounds, about 40-50 yard Bluetooth range... and it'll run off your phone.

I'm also in the market.
I narrowed it down to the FoxPro Inferno for my needs. If one doesn't show up under the tree I'm hoping for a post Christmas sale.

APC has the CS24 for $399 now.

I have one on order as of yesterday. It will be my 7th FP unti as I keep moving up!
Most top line calls run from $300-$500 these days & hold 1k to 2k sound files in mp3,wav, or other proprietary files of what brand the call may be.

Well that's a hell of a lot cheaper than they were 3 years ago.

I have one - they are really good.

Any Foxpro caller with the TX-1000 remote is what you want. There are three basic calls to consider: the Fusion which is small and has a lot of features (many of which you may never need or use), and can be made louder with the addition of another speaker. The Shockwave is bigger and heavier, but has the most features. The CS24C does not have as many features, but is loud, clear and easy to learn to use.

I would skip the decoy-for now. Get it if you need it later. A decoy can scare away as many coyotes as it attracts, and in moderately thick cover, a coyote can charge the decoy and be back in cover in the blink of an eye.

I have used several FoxPro calls with good results.

In real open country a decoy "might" help.

Dale, I sprung for the FP cs 24 c. Are you in the southern, more open MN or up in the woods?

In NW Iowa it's 98% open but I opted to forego a decoy at least for now. Will give it a go without first.

Regarding the decoy... strictly for coyotes a decoy is about a 50/50 proposition. I've had coyotes literally try to eat the decoy and I've had coyotes spook badly as soon as they spotted the decoy. For cats a decoy is very helpful.

I use a fox squirrel tail on a Primos Sit & Spin and that seems to help focus the attention of 'cats, coyotes, and foxes in both open country, along fence lines, and along edge cover. In open country, I've had hawks and vultures come in and take, or try to take, the squirrel tail on multiple occasions.

I have a Fusion and sp60 speaker, had a Scorpion, but could not see to read the remote. TX-1000 is the only way to go, it's that good.

Agree. A decoy is like a howl, might help, might hurt-use with caution, only when really needed or you have nothing to lose.

I have several but use the cheap Inferno when I will cover a lot of ground on foot. It is not the loudest but it is light and compact and the remote has good range. In very cold weather I stick it in a 1 quart insulated bottle cover w/ a hot hands warmer.

I can just see sitting on stand, the Ruger app going through the speaker -
and my *%#! phone going off on an incoming call (being HOH aka deaf, my phone notification will alert any critter in 2 counties)
