I stumbled on this rifle at a local shop and I had been looking around for a .308 Norma Mag so I snagged it up. I have been trying to find out more info on Mr. Van Horn and it seems he was well liked. Here are a few pictures.

Lovely rifle.

Have you tried "googling" Gil VanHorn?

Thanks, Yes I have googled him and he mentored Mr. Breeding In his rifle building business and he was a big bore guru. I just don't see many of his rifles online and for sure not in Arkansas. I would like to see some more of his rifles.

There was a .460 VH for sale on gunbroker 3-4 months ago. It was tested by Bob Hagel and he wrote an article in Handloader,IIRC.

Not many Vanhorns are for sale, because people tend to hang on to them.

That is a nice looking gun, by nice I mean apparent quality and lines. Always though the 308 norma made more design sense than the 300 win mag. I dont get to make those decisions. So, we are stuck with 300 wm. No big deal, I guess.

I should look in my old letter file as Gil and I corresponded for quite awhile about his rifles and wildcats.
If I find any of his photos or brochures I'll post them.

Thanks,

Seems to me Van Horn was located around Sacramento.
i used to see him and his artistry at the Great American gun show
