I picked up a JM Marlin in .357 mag. a few months ago and was anxious to try it out on deer. I finely got the chance during the late antlerless season. I got a set of Skinner peep sights and took it hunting. My load was Hornady Leverevolution 140 gr. A 50 yard shot on this Hugh doe. I must admit I was impressed. To get a better idea of the size of this old gal, I'm 6'2" 285#

Wow, that's impressive! You couldn't ask for an easier rifle to carry, no? Well placed shot or ???

Yes John it's a farm deer but it was no match for the little .357 Marlin. I'm tickled pink with this rifle

I now have a couple of 1873 clones in .45 Colt for cowboy action shooting, both slicked up with short strokes, that I wouldn't mind trying in your kind of hunting. One of these days.... The short lever actions do handle great, all right.

That's a damn big doe, well done.
Pretty cool, the little 357 in a carbine is pretty potent.
I shot a doe this year with a Rossi 1892 44 mag, 240gr SWC hardcast at 900fps, killed it efficiently and without any drama or ruined meat.
My doe was much smaller though

Darn if that isn't a huge doe....congrats. Try shooting the Hornady 180 gr XTP out of your little carbine....a very potent bullet pushed by Hodgdon Lil'gun powder.

Longhunter_1 how do you like the Skinner peep sight? I have a Rossi 92 .357 I want to try and the stock rear sight is getting fuzzy. Nice doe by the way..

That's a nice doe! Good job....
Biden's most truthful quote ever came during his first press conference, 03/25/21. Drum roll please...... "I don't know, to be clear." and THAT is one promise he's kept!!!
