700 L/A . All fiberglass. 20oz. Needs a lot of prep work for new. Got this from an auction of gunsmith stuff. Ideas?

Brown Precision gets my vote. From my experience the give-away is the mold seam line on the left and right of the stock. Most others have the mold seam line running the length of the stock on the top and bottom. I've had a few and they CAN take some work to get them finished up. Go slowly and WET sand.

Yes.

We used to sand down the seams, fill in the cracks with some goop, sand smooth and bed them....hunt them "as is". We killed a lot of animals with those ugly, unfinished stocks. smile

Could just imagine trying to sell them unfinished across a counter at Cabelas smile I am accustomed to Hi Tech unfinished. This was a bit of a shock. Not a big deal but hard to explain to someone receiving one of these for the first time what it is going to look like. A little more putty and glass...

Was going to trip it and some other stocks I have been looking to for years...

Thanks guys..

W

You sure it's not Kevlar? They're usually yellow. Plus, 20oz. is pretty light for a fiberglass blank.

I don't remember Brown ever doing stocks with Monte Carlo combs. But whoever built it just took an ADL stock and did a mold of it.

True enough, but Brown wasn't the only one to build their stocks like this. Garrett, Lee Six, and the early McMillans were very similar.

Did just as Bob suggests with my first Brown on a tang safety Ruger 77 back in the early 80s. Shot a lot of game with that rifle, and it always looked the same - beat up.

No Monte Carlo. Just cheek piece. Not a Six. Know that.
Going trip in classifieds. Asking price help?
