We used to really enjoy SP at a pub when we lived in Calgary. Quality of the meat makes or breaks a pie.

We had doe #1 turned into sage sausage which we use for a variety of cooking.
Works good for the pie.
Instead of broth or whatever other recipes call for, I actually use carrot juice (thank me later) and a touch of Worcestershire, and I cover the meat/veggies with some shredded cheese before putting on the taters.
I was used to cooking for either an entire squad, or a fire department/EMS shift, so I made a bunch. It was dinner Wednesday, lunch Thursday for me, wife, and kid, dinner again Thursday, and I have the remaining for lunch today.
I remember scrambling one together with MRE's quite a few times.
