Saw that on the news. He is lucky he did not hit any vehicles as he went across all the lanes of traffic. Was wild to watch.

That's a notoriously dangerous highway. Going west, it's all downhill for something like 20 miles. Way too easy to let your speed get away from you; add in ice and it's Whoa Nelly! The semi driver may not have been able to slow down to avoid the plow. That looks like the curve that runs past Thistle, the site of the costliest landslide in US history in 1983. At Christmas we went over that pass both ways. It can be very dangerous although both of our trips were on bare roads as we dodged storms. It can be hairy up there when it's icy. Most truckers are good drivers but there are some...

As I implied, the semi driver may not be at complete fault. When he came upon the plow, he may have had only three choices: hit the plow, hit the brakes and jackknife, or try to miss the plow.

As I implied, the semi driver may not be at complete fault. When he came upon the plow, he may have had only three choices: hit the plow, hit the brakes and jackknife, or try to miss the plow. Or he should have been driving for the conditions prior to running into the snow plow......tough to say, but Utah drivers are among the worst - those people go 5-10 over no matter what the conditions are.

You may not know that road as well as I do. A semi would risk jackknifing if he got hard on the brakes when it's icy and downhill. That stretch is ALL icy and downhill. With curves.

They used to call it Basic Rule, or driving too fast for the conditions. You must always drive at a speed that will allow you to stop for hazards, etc. The plow didn't suddenly appear. This trucker was driving too fast to slow down for the plow. He was driving too fast for how slick the road was.

If so, it's just south of the turnoff for Diamond Fork Canyon. It's the most dangerous highway in the state. Not a good place to be driving in bad weather.

Well, I'll say it one last time: it may not have been his choice how fast he was going. Repeating it still won't make it true. If he couldn't stop in time it's because he was going too fast for conditions.
